I post because I'm nocturnal and none of my friends/family are. It's too quiet, so I use my typing to fill my room with much needed noise. *cricket chirping* ......... >_>;;

I like having an intellectual debate with people that are older than me and will understand what I have to say. The comments from people are informative and very valid and I like to communicate with the people here, I can't stand having any of the debates I have had here at the Escapist with some "friends" at school.

A combination of being bored, having a topic that interests me, and the firm belief that what I say has the potential, however miniature, to make a difference in someone else's day. Also, disagreeing with people.

Because I want a high post count.

Seriously though - I like this forum and all the topics are so different there's always something that you're able to post in and share your thoughts and argue your case.

I have a lot of free time and I want to type out my opinions or to contribute to the thread topic.

I like having discussions. It´s just enjoyable and allows me to articulate myself.

And I really mean DISCUSSIONS, not shouting-matches, which is why I usually try to engage people who have something interesting to say directly via quoting , instead of just throwing my opinion out there. (Something at which I fail regularly, as this post nicely demonstrates....)

Also, if you actually try to adhere to a certain standard of argument and style, writing ANYTHING improves yourself. Even writing on the internet, as insane that might seem.

I get that too. I can be halfway through writing a post, then realize that no one will be interested, it's gone on waaaaaay too long, or that there's not a lot of point. I then feel really sheepish and delete the comment.
Anyways, I usually post to add my voice to the sea of public opinion concerning something, to ask a specific question, or because I'm generally interested in a topic. I don't care so much about my post count though.
Ganda... Bobbity posted my thoughts already, so I don't need to post this. In fact, I might delete this post as well.

But, yes. I do it all the time: writing a respond and then realizing I'm saying the same thing as five dozen other users, or I don't know how to put my words or tell my view/opinion without making a post that looks like a novel. etc. There are plenty of reasons.

The OP seemed rather angsty with the "why do you even bother to wake up in the morning" -mentality strongly being present.

Initially, the same reason why i talk/discuss/argue with people in person. But also because i truly believe developers of games when they say they read forums to gauge the opinion of their fans on their games. The Escapist might not be one of those sites, but i never posted in a forum before i started here (friendly, intelligent people. Take notice of each others posts, are generally polite and provide stimulating conversation), so the Escapist was a good introduction to expanding my forum-posting habits, and good practice to keep it up if i ever decide to go to a specific game's forum to provide my opinion.

I...don't really know.

Maybe because the friends I had became intolerably boring and I don't feel like meeting new people. Maybe because I genuinly like being ignored...or maybe I just like that I have to examine my own thoughts before I can coherently commit them to the reply box, and that-that in itself is immensly interesting.

OP, you're thinking too much.

I do it cuz I'm bored.

And that's pretty much the only reason anyone does anything anymore.

If there's an interesting discussion - to voice my opinion, sometimes to be witty(although that rarely succeeds), and mostly just boredom, like, say, this post right here.

Serious answer: Ummm.... mostly because I can? I mean, if a thread interests me enough, I'll put in my two cents. And I'll especially contribute to a thread if I can disagree with somebody in a dickish manner. I'm nice like that.

OT: Boredom, when someone is horribly wrong and I wish to correct them, when one of the people I like is in an argument and I feel they missed something, or I feel I can help them drive the final proverbial nail into the already nail-filled coffin of their enemy.

Also, mainly boredom.
this, asking random questions, answering random questions, participating in debate, or offering an otherwise new piece of advice. I'll post informative pieces and attempt to get conversation going should I need to get some information for whatever reason (usually personal studies, but I actually have a point to these questions normally).

Also, HAI GAIZ! I like to chat with folks that I know and happen to like, though I tend to prefer speaking with foreigners both IRL and online.

To be honest, often I do it because I feel I have an opinion that either adds to the argument/discussion or disagrees with it - and should be voiced - and as long as I feel that I have sensibly articulated that opinion, I don't really care what response it gets after that. This post is case in point.

It's about self-respect, mostly.

Don't you know that we are supposed to ignore the little voice that tells us too. Obviously I haven't listened too it much.
OT: I post from time to time to talk to my friends mostly. I try to avoid the huge controversies and what not but sometimes I go into them. But mainly I post to talk to my friends.
