Why do you say that Extra Credits is preachy?

I'm a huge fan of the Extra Credits videos--I actually anticipate them more than I do for Zero Punctuation. That said, I notice that, almost every week, at least a handful of posters criticize Extra Credits as being too "preachy" or "patronizing".

So for those of you who feel this way towards Extra Credits: what is it about the Extra Credits videos that make you think this?

They aren't preachy, they just know what the fuck they're talking about.
Perhaps, but nonetheless I'm interested in knowing -why- they say so.

What I'm interested in is why you think this: is it the delivery? Is it their tone? The way they talk? The illustrations?

At times, yes they can. But only a little bit, mostly back when they were on Youtube and didn't even have a name.

People accuse things of being preachy whenever they find someone who knows more than they do about any subject, I normally don't pay attention to any comments good or bad.

I don't find Daniel Floyd preachy in the slightest. In fact i find Extra Credits a very informative show and when listened to in the right way it give one a deeper understanding of some of the behind-the-scenes work in the gaming industry.

Two perfect examples of people who said they are preachy but didn't give a reason as to WHY?

EC know alot about the games industry, and I've had my opinions changed, sometimes outright, by watching their videos. They deliver it in an easily understood and convincing way. If getting your point across is preaching, then so be it.

Considering the subjects they cover I really expected them to sound preachy. But generally they don't.

Preachy?

Really?

Huh.

I suppose the Free Speech video was a bit on the preachy side, but that's about it.

They may sound preachy and patronizing, I don't think they do, because they actually work in the industry. The know what's going on and are trying to inform others of with their professional opinions.

Just let it slide, don't let it get you worked up.
I should note that I'm not angry in the least about this, merely interested in why certain people believe EC to be preachy. Said people have yet to provide a specific reason why they think so.

Then maybe you should have PM'd the people in the Extra Credits thread, than create an entirely separate thread at a time when the people who do think they are preachy may not be online.

I have told you why some people write shit like that, because it's different.
If you want to have
Code:
"a specific reason why they think so"
maybe you should have asked them directly.
Because I also want people to try and have debates over these "specific reasons" once I find them out. If I'm lucky, the people who think EC is preachy might also get online some time in the near future.

Could you possibly link these preachy comments? I have yet to see a single one really and I love Extra Credits. There is nothing wrong with it. They can drag on a bit, but that doesn't mean they aren't informative.

It is a little preachy towards the industry, but it makes brilliant points and deserves to be preachy. If every game dev watched it we'd be in a happier place... We can dream.
