Why does Activision/Call of Duty get all the hate, yet EA doesn't?

I think the main difference is that EA doesn't really seem to have a Bobby Kotick - one person who is the voice of all the negative things that come out of the company. Kotick provides a ton of quotes, but I can't think of one person at EA who's said as much polarizing crap as him.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Actually since ea seems to be determined to fuck up the launch of battlefield 3 on the pc, activision has been getting much less hate lately, kotick seems to have learned to shut his gob and ea is trying really really hard to make gamers who pay attention, hate it.

The only difference I see is that Activision-Blizzard has a person whom we can hate upon, EA doesn't. Reminds me of the Lorax story Dr.Seuss wrote.

Trust me. EA has been getting far more hate for far longer than Activision. It's just that Activision often gets this knee-jerk hate reaction that simmers down after a while, but EA gets this constant simmering rage from a whole lot of people.
I'd say this pretty accurately sums things up

My opinion only.

I don't have any problems with EA to make me say "I HATE THIS COMPANY." Sure they're adding online passes and Origin with their games, but it doesn't bother me that much since I buy my games new and mostly for PS2, PS3, Gamecube, Wii, and iPod.

What I do hate about Activision is whenever I think of that company, the first thing that comes to mind is Call of Duty. Back then, they were publishers of awesome game that I would enjoy. The top three being the Tony Hawk series, their Marvel games, and DJ Hero. Now most of those games games are either dead and gone or crap (their latest game X-Men Destiny receiving negative reviews and I had high hopes for that game).

People hate Activison because CoD is popular

People hate EA because of the origin thing

Stop the hate.

EA does get a lot of Hate, most of which it doesnt deserve anymore, but Activion is getting hate because it waited till CoD got to its Prime (COD4), then Fucked it up as much as possible and still got loads of money for it.

EA gets plenty of hate, but CoD is a bit more mainstream, and so has more screaming 11 year olds online.

Also the whole Infinity Ward debacle.

Though EA has a history of poor business decisions as well

EA have an atrocious marketing department, but generally they're not all that bad (not that they don't suffer some rather large slip-ups from time to time) anymore. Around 2008 there was a noticeable turn away from how they used to behave.

Activision are consistent, only in the worst way possible.

I'd say EA and Activision get about equal amounts of well-deserved hate, or that EA actually gets more. I don't see what that has to do with devs or Call of Duty, though.

EA are massive corporate dick-heads just like Activision, but what they really have going for them is that they didn't fire the development team behind their biggest title, keep the studio name, transfer in some of the idiots who made every spin-off Call of Duty terrible, and act like nothing ever happened. And it was a while ago, but if I recall right they were doing some Orwellian shiz to their workers which led to the split.

At least D.I.C.E. has a nice safe home.

Oh and as for the "Battlefield will crush Call of Duty" statement, this isn't really that odd. To anyone who's played both for a good period of time it's clear which one offers better content mostly due to innovations which allow for absurd creativity in battle. Battlefield 3, or at least what I've played of it really sends this point home, and were it not for mankind's fear of new things and willingness to just blindly follow a big name I don't think the CoD series would hand around much longer.

The way i see it is that EA gets general hate with the odd spike like with origins, but cod gets massive spikes that blot out the EA one as its a game series compared to a game company.
EA gets more hate, but the cod hate is more noticeable when it comes out or leading up to.
Plus ive seen more threads or people hating on EA that cod, on the escapist at least.

EA gets more hate than Activision. The only thing Activision does is that in its incredible short-sightedness, it pushes out two games in a series eery year and milks out more and more quality out of it every time (CoD, Guitar Hero). But at least doing that is expanding the videogame marketing and is creating more gamers.

From a more industry perspective, I've heard that EA is just too large to really pin down any kind of consistent message. Some of my friends in the industry had relatively positive experiences with EA (hard on deadlines, but know what they're doing and very supportive), whereas Activision got a shitload of ire (hard on deadlines and wholly incompetent.

To me, EA does some bad stuff, but seems to be just flawed. Activision, on the other hand, has Kotick there being absolutely malicious to the entire industry. EA will gamble on furthering the industry, Activision won't. And that's why you won't hear me shouting about EA as much.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I still wounder why. EA hires people to act like Religious extremist to boycott Dante's Inferno, Medal of Honor's censorship, Dead Space 2 commercial(we should be luck that Fox New is stupid and attacked Bulletstorm instead, or we would fucked), the whole "Battlefield 3's gonna take down Modern Warfare 3" statement they made at E3 after Activison said they wanted to have, and don't get me started on that Battlefield commercial slogan. Why does EA keep doing this and get away with this? But does activision get hate? Yes, there was the whole "2010 employee firings and departures", but that's just one thing they've done wrong, and yet EA has so much more. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy a lot of the games they publish, like Mass Effect and Bulletstorm, Those little "Marketing acts" and the statements just prove that they're acting like a bunch of 13 year old boys with the mindset of a 7 year old. What do you guys think.
Your fucking kidding right, EA gets so much undeserved shit on this site its unbelievable. I work for EA and just mentioning that to a hardcore game nerd gets them chucking theoretical shit in my eyes.

I have not bought an EA title new since the 90s, none of my money goes to them and that's the way I likes it. Any titles I want published by EA I buy pre-owned so they don't get the money. I love Mass effect but I'll be waiting til I see ME3 pre-owned before buying however long that takes.

Right now, I don't really have a reason to dislike EA Origin doesn't bother me Steam hasn't really ever terribly impressed me and frankly I'm hoping Origin does succeed the market desperately needs a competitor toe Steam. DRM well, we're stuck with it, it's not going anywhere, but you know what I got cracks for that and mine are on legal copies. Online passes? I buy all my games even on my 360 new and I never resell. That just leaves their marketing and well you do remember those early PS3 commercials right?

People have been hating EA for years, bro. They were the biggest player around.

Then Activision and Blizzard merged, and then COD went mega big, and now there's two big players.

And if there's anything people hate, it's big players.

I dont care for either company, but EA is much worse in my opinion. I believe if the videogame industry every collapses it will because of the douchebaggery of EA
