Why would you take the massive ogre/troll(I forget what they are) seriously considering the big beasts where taken down by a small band? Well there is a reason aragon, legolas, and gimeli are part of the good guys special ops squad, because they are fucking badasses. I think it's pretty obvious that without those three some help from wizards, unnatural beings, and other kingdoms besides the one being attacked the whole fucking world would be doomed by the ridiculously stupid orcs.

The books show orcs as being much more formidable. The "orcs" in The Hobbit were never in the books. Half the time, when you see an orc in the LOTR movies, it is actually a goblin. It was goblins riding wargs that Elrond's hunting party wiped out. An actual battle with orcs would result in a loss with even-numbered forces.
