its easy.
its not very hard to learn or comprehend because it's not really too complex of a game so stupid people tend to like it, and there are LOTS of stupid people in this world (hence why so many people buy it).

3) To the moronic masses who have never actually seen a soldier or a military base in real life, 'Call of Duty' is a juvenile war fantasy. It's not a matter of realism; it's a matter of being a soldier of war with a gun and being incredibly- I use the following word insincerely due to it conflicting with my actual definition of the word- badass and killing everyone. For any of you, even I will pray for your health if you actually hold such views in front of your superior officer, and I will pray doubly so if you voice those views.
You mean exactly like Battlefield 3 then? Come to think of it, LIKE EVERY ACTION GAME EVER? Whoa better get off those video games before you lose all your social skills and respect for anyone! We should make a video game that's all about realistic warfare, where you patrol streets and if you die once you have to restart from the beginning of the game. And you'll die from a landmine or an ambush, you'll rarely get into an actual firefight! Oh yah and they should teach the player the importance of cooking, fire making, how to send distress signals to get found oh yah and the game should teach the player how to speak the native language throughout the game. Sounds like so much fun, gee thank gosh for you enlightened minority who won't play a game if it isn't dedicated to realism, which means you're probably not playing video games at all.

Although I do find it hilarious how hardcore pro's playing war shooters join the army because of them, probably only to find out it's not what they thought it was going to be, and that in order to see a small fraction of what you see in the games you'd have to be your high school sports star and go through years of training in order to get into the highest ranks of the military.
Let's not jump the gun, sir/ma'am. I never said that I liked realism in games (although I'm going by the majority's definition of 'realism' here). Indeed, I much prefer Painkiller or Deus Ex or Xenoblade Chronicles simply because they're more fun. Although, I would like to play the game that you described; it sounds interesting and varied.

I would actually like to watch their disappointment in person. Let's get some banana lounges and maybe some parasols. I'll bring the drinks; you bring the food (and please no mints or coconut). Maybe we can bring a barbeque and have pancakes.

The fact that the game is set in the real world doesn't matter; 'Call of Duty' fans are (I imagine) also fond of 'Mass Effect' because the gameplay is similar; hide behind walls (like a soldier), kill anything that pops out to look at you (like a soldier), proceed (like a soldier). Games like 'Serious Sam' and 'Painkiller' are in no way the same as you can jump very high, run while gunning and carry seven billion weapons and not look down the sights. Also, you're likely to get savaged by a bunch of extremely strong enemies at once (this has doomed me several times in Sam Stone's first adventure). 'Call of Duty' players don't want to be superhumans; they want to be soldiers.
Yes, soldiers who fight Russian commies all over the world in an elaborate campaign for global domination. Considering people don't care if they're Russian's or Americans in the multiplayer, nor do they hate Russians with a grudge, yah I'd assume this is not for real.

Moreover, I'm tired of seeing people say "people have no taste in games" if they buy CoD, seriously if you campaign about that you're a huge tool, now go get your award from EA marketing for advertising their product.
I would appreciate it if you wouldn't be so apt to call me some pawn of EA. You don't see me calling you Activision's slave and I would prefer to make that stay the case. For the record, I'm not fond of EA in the slightest and Battlefield is precisely in the same area of my spectrum of importance as Call of Duty and Gears of War.

Let me tell you something; I have a little sister who used to constantly play Call of Duty: Black Ops and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. In fact, she still plays the former. No matter what I did, I could never get her to play anything else; Deus Ex was 'too gay' because she couldn't complete the tutorial, Team Fortress 2 was 'too cartoony', Painkiller was 'too scary', No More Heroes had 'crappy graphics', you get the idea. I finally succeeded, however, in getting her to play inFAMOUS. Finally, I had managed to branch her interests out from Call of Duty.

*I would like to add that I think that the Assassin's Creed series is reliably fun to play and I do not think it is bad. Call of Duty, on the other hand, is average.

Oh lawdy. You are missing the one and only reason it is popular.

It's fun. End of thread.

I play it because it's fun. It changes "little each year" but someone needs to define little. The way I imagine it, everyone wants the game to change drastically each year. Personally, I like it better when it doesn't change that much. It's the same game I have fun playing but different.

Then why do you make the real world comparison that people would act like that IN THE GODDAMN MILITARY? Among all the insults that is the worst one I've ever heard and is more detrimental to your character.

/standard flawed Escapist insult

That was not my point. My point was that the reason the CoD franchise is hated so much is because EA and its BF fans have inflated the opinion of hatred, thus things like "it's the same thing every year" are constantly repeated, even though that is pretty much most sequels in the industry. Anyone can make those arguments for say Fallout, Assasin's Creed etc. it's just they're directed at CoD since it's 1. popular and 2. a rival to Battlefield.

Is Star Wars, Star Trek, Resistence also in that? Because those games are as far spaced from reality as it can get as well as the ones you mentioned

There you again forcing your opinion down people's throat, if she doesn't like it but she still likes CoD that's fine there's nothing wrong with that it's just a game, forcing things down a kids throat is only going to make them grow up to hate it.

Did you even see what Revelations did? Exactly like what a CoD sequel is, same thing with a few updates. After playing Arkham city though I found how poor the combat in AC:B really is, it flows like a stone in the Sahara desert, it's as fun as writing an essay on stones and it fits into the game like a cancerous tumor. The only thing which made me reminiscent on AC was the platforming, which was the only thing I'd say was better, even though it's a Batman game the overall game structure is the same but better.

Have you ever considered the fact that it might be a mixture of all those things you listed? and then some?

If your looking the major point to why, then I would say you probably hit the nail on the head.

Everybody I know plays CoD, and they all play different games. I highly doubt that there is a large majority of people out there that only own Call of Duty games.
A new guy started in my work place recently, we said 'Do you play games', he said yeah sometimes, we said 'What games do play' he said CoD and Fifa, then we said 'Are you getting Skyrim?' he said, what's Skyrim.

Long story short, that's bullshit.
Congratulations, you found a counter argument to my personal experience. Yeah, how often does he play? How many friends do you have that purely play CoD?

Because... never mind.

... was this meant to go to the quote below? Ah, whatever. The thing is, it's still not a good thing if other games do it. Assassin's Creed 2 was vastly different from Assassin's Creed 1 (which is good), but Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood was more or less the same as Assassin's Creed 2 (which is bad). "It's the same thing every year" can be applied for more than just Call of Duty and I do agree that this needs to change.

Call of Duty and Battlefield have pretensions to realism. Star Trek, Star Wars and Resistance do not. They are ranked slightly higher. Gears of War is on the same level as Call of Duty and Battlefield for different reasons.

I know all of that and I don't mind her playing Call of Duty anymore. My problem is that she wouldn't play anything else. Also, my sister is close to 15.

How nice for you. I haven't played Assassin's Creed: Revelations and I don't plan to. If it is the same thing as the game before then shame on it and I'm not being sarcastic.
