I'd say its because this site seems to be going from a "gaming" site to a "geek" site or something like that.

Just my two cents.
Geek hum... it is ok I think to have 'more' options, but, how far can it go and still be a gaming site to?...
It is still primarily a game sight. It just has a little bit of everything else as well.

EDIT: No idea why it quoted you Sturmdolch. Definitely didn't mean to do that.

My best guess is that some staff members here like anime, and even though this is a gaming site, there's no real reason not to let them write something about anime if they want to.

Of course, it's worth noting that I stopped taking the Escapists opinions on the subject seriously when I read its take on Nanoha (even moreso A's).

I agree with you, it's not related at all.

The "lots of gamers are into it" argument just doesn't fly. More gamers reading this probably like food or heavy metal than Anime but The Escapist doesn't review restaurants or the new Slayer album.
To be fair, whenever gaming sites cover anime, it's probably less "gamers like anime, so let's cover what gamers like" and more "anime's in the general geek purview of sci-fi and video games, so while we're at it, let's have an off-handed discussion on anime like we sometimes do with Star Wars." It's less a question of "why" than "why not."

because if it was purely gaming then you might as well just go to rockpapershotgun or some of its other comtemporaries. plus some of the biggest things on the escapist don't have anything to do with games other then being set in a fantasy realm (doraleous and associates) plus there are a lot of people who play games who watch anime.

about half the people i speak to online and reguarly game with watch anime the two things just seem to come hand in hand for some reason i dont know why though.

I don't really like Anime and I can bet more people would rather have music than anime. I know I would! I could go on criticizing on how music should have more love but I'll pass.

Anyway, personal opinion aside it's because we here at the Escapist have a lot of anime fans. Basically it...

The site has never been just about games, it has always been about the culture and experiences of gamers. So we cover anime because a) people wanted to write about it, b) people want to read about it, and c) it fits in with the things we like.

Yeah, we'd never cover food [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/writersroom/8341-Geek-Eats] or metal [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/features/issue/235]. Oh, wait...

Specifically, restaurant reviews wouldn't make sense because it would have to be something spectacularly interesting to fit within the subject matter we cover. Likewise, we don't regularly cover music because we aren't "music people". Besides, music is very individual, and very hard to cover - at best you could effectively focus on one style of music, and you'd still alienate half the people that looked at it.

But we have, and do, cover technology, science, toys, tabletop games, comics, anime, cosplay, crafts, cars, politics, movies, television, and a dozen other topics when we feel they're relevant to what we're about. And we always have, even back to some of our earliest content [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/features/issue/18].

A couple of months ago they even posted a listing for an Escapist editor dealing with non-games material.
Yep - Elizabeth Grunewald recently joined the team as our "Not Games Editor".
