The site has never been just about games, it has always been about the culture and experiences of gamers. So we cover anime because a) people wanted to write about it, b) people want to read about it, and c) it fits in with the things we like.

More gamers reading this probably like food or heavy metal than Anime but The Escapist doesn't review restaurants or the new Slayer album.
Yeah, we'd never cover food [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/writersroom/8341-Geek-Eats] or metal [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/features/issue/235]. Oh, wait...
Specifically, restaurant reviews wouldn't make sense because it would have to be something spectacularly interesting to fit within the subject matter we cover. Likewise, we don't regularly cover music because we aren't "music people". Besides, music is very individual, and very hard to cover - at best you could effectively focus on one style of music, and you'd still alienate half the people that looked at it.
But we have, and do, cover technology, science, toys, tabletop games, comics, anime, cosplay, crafts, cars, politics, movies, television, and a dozen other topics when we feel they're relevant to what we're about. And we always have, even back to some of our earliest content [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/features/issue/18].

A couple of months ago they even posted a listing for an Escapist editor dealing with non-games material.
Yep - Elizabeth Grunewald recently joined the team as our "Not Games Editor".
