Thats what I get for not re-reading my posts. But seriously though it was just a typo, dude.
You should'nt have to re-read your post to realise "worsted" isn't a word.
Well isn't that the whole point of re-reading one's post? On that subject...

I think you mean, shouldn't. You see, this is why I normally don't have a go at people because of a single small mistake i.e. If do something wrong, which almost always happens, then I will look like a massive arse.

I used to love Runescape. I think like most MMOs, getting rich and strong is the aim of the game.

When I was new, I met a guy who was levelling up as a cook. He'd always pay me to go and fetch things like eggs and milk so he could bake cakes. I could've spent this time murdering things to level up faster, but being a cook's apprentice was a cool feeling at the time. (I was young too, I admit)

I stopped playing in the end because it got grindy and I didn't like the freaks who did PVP. It was also getting really hard to make money from cooking since people were only interested in buying lobsters, and it was intentionally awkward for non-payers to get lobsters.

I could probably play it again. Can't remember if I gave away all my stuff though...

I use to play RuneScape, and I enjoyed it.

As I have grown, however, (and purchased an xbox 360), I have lost interest in it.

Sure it is- though I'll admit, I don't think he was talking about yarn [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worsted]. :) "Realise", on the other hand is not found in any dictionary I've ever seen. Tip- when playing the role of a grammar Nazi, at least spell check your own post- better yet, don't be a grammar Nazi.

To those of you complaining about Runescape's fetch quests and grinding, I'm curious how other MMOs are any different. I'm not trying to troll here- I'm genuinely ignorant on the subject, never having been able to bring myself to spend the equivalent of the cost of a brand new game every two months to continue playing an old game. My understanding of the genre was that grinding and fetch quests were pretty much the bulk of game play. How is Runescape any different in that respect to WoW or Everquest? Is there some aspect of those games I'm unaware of that makes them worth the money?

I would really like to know because I've been on the fence about whether or not to try them for quite some time.

First of all, what's with all the grammar nazism in this thread? Do people seriously get off on finding someone's typo and nitpicking about it? Is that all you have to contribute to the thread?

Now, back to the topic at hand, Runescape was one of the games I tried recently when I set out to try a bunch of free MMOs and find a good one. My search came up with zilch. Free MMOs are almost universally crap. To be fair to Runescape, it's no more or less crap than other free MMOs.

Having said that, MMOs mostly rely on communities to make the game truly fun. If you can find a good guild any piece of shyte is entertaining. That's the basis on which free MMOs thrive. But in the end, they are just really bad games. Personally, if I ever go back to playing MMOs, I'll go for a subscrition based one. At lest they tend to have some level of actual gameplay in them.

Oh, and I have a degree of hope for the upcoming free version of DDO to satisfy my freeloading needs. But yeah, Runescape sucks.

I never played it, what I saw of it looked like a terrible Diablo ripoff, and there are many other mmorpgs that are 10 times prettier and easy to use.

I've heard it's good if you pay for it, If your a "Free user" it blows.
But if you pay for it, wouldn't WoW, WAR, Aion or CoH be better?

Actually, in England we use -ise instead of -ize in most words. A little transatlantic pitfall for all you would be nitpickers.

Also, runescape is a total gridfest filled with 10 year old jerks. Does not equal fun times.

Dude, if your willing to pay for it, A bowl of sauerkraut would be better
Even if you aren't willing to pay for it, the bowl of sauerkraut is still probably the better option.

Runescape is inhabited by people between the ages of 11-14 who are after a free game to play so they can have something to talk about while the teacher is trying to talk and so they can use their 'conquests' as some form of penis extension.

I am an ex-player and now I realise just HOW fruitless my time was spent on that game. It was decent for someone with a low spec computer but even that is pushing boundaries.

Motto of this story. If you want a 'good' AND 'free' MMORPG, you're best choice is to just get Guild Wars (and even that isnt totally free)

I don't hate it, in fact i LOVE it! But you have to take it in consideration that it's only fun as a game you play when your bored, PS3 is at your mom's house, 360 broken(as always) or if your playing on a Mini laptop.

I don't hate it. Many people do.

It's a terribly made game that makes FAT STACKS OF CASH for absolutely nothing. It has bad gameplay, it looks horrible, and it's just generally not fun. This isn't something that should make money, I could make this sort of thing on my own.

People don't like it for these reasons, among other things. So unless someone wants to add other things for these to be among, this post should clear it up.

Also,

Because there's no real fun in it. It's a crappy MMO that can easily be replaced with a better buyable game. A common argument to that is "But RuneScape is free." No, it isn't. I played it a long time ago, and couldn't shit without being a member. I mean, you have to be a member to climb over a fucking fence! The hell? Is he so retarded that he doesn't know how to climb over a three foot fence, and being a member is like going to school?
^That.
Holy crap, STALKER! You followed me! Nah, just kiddin'. The Escapist community is pretty small.
No, I just singled you out. Prepare to be quoted in every thread you're ever in.
Joking, of course.
Riiiiiiight. ;D
I will quote you in every thread you enter. Make a thread about it!

probably because people think of it as a WOW rip-off, I had a free account but then but a members account and found it loads more fun than WOW, it was faster paced and I just seemed to like it more, plus my friends had accounts, I quit a while ago though, round about the time they abolished real world trading

I played Runescape for around 1 year when I was 12 and then I went to login one day and it turns out i had been hacked many curses were shouted that day... but back onto topic i would call Runescape really just a thing that most people do around that age and it is usaully the first MMORPG people play and after a while most people either stop playing it and move onto a other MMO most likely WoW or LotR or thats the last MMO they ever play in my experiance.

Its like 'My First MMORPG', people play it, like it, pay for it(sometimes), and when they leave it for other games/MMORPG's they realise that they could do a-lot better. Its like an introduction to gaming at that level.

I loved it when I was younger, played it day and night (and day again [sup]Argh no sleep[sup]I don't want to keep doing bowstrings I just need the money[/sup][/sup]).
And it was not only a fun game at the time, but it also provided me with a solid social scene in which to set myself as other all played it too

I remember I used to play it a bit when I was 8 or so, but even then I got bored of it. I'm not saying that you have to be under double digits to play it, but just that most people that I know who enjoy it are. I personally don't like it because the graphics are horrible, and I never really enjoyed that kind of game- seemed boring to me. Make a fire, kill a skeleton, and get gold.

Still, it's free, so I can't really bash it too much.
