Why does everybody hate Superman?

Because he's dull. His superpowers are bland and make things easy and uninteresting and he has the personality of a fridge. It's very rare I've ever seen anything involving Superman in which I felt that Superman was in any sort of danger at all. Attempts to try and make him more vulnerable and relatable have always just struck me as writers trying their best to fix the inherent flaws in the original concept.

Well, you just lost all your credibility. Not only did you "remember it wrong", you state that you obviously did not watch anything and so missed out an any kind of character development and struggle.
He, he... Let me just read back to you the first line of my post :
"OK, I remembered it wrong, been a couple of years since I WATCHED THE SHOW."

That's first of all, secondly I didn't say anything about the character development or struggle in that episode (or episodes, depends if you want to count all the parts as a single episode) because it's the same part of development and same struggle as he have been through countless times.
"Oh, no! People are dying and I can't save them all, I can't beat this guy! But now I can by trusting Lex Luthor, OK, teh end!" *

(*For more "trusting Lex Luthor"-plot points: see also "Justice League: crisis on two earths" and "Justice League" season 2 episode(s) 11-12 "A Better World")

So when the episodes feature Superman in a fight against someone who can't use magic or have kryptonite, you can almost just skip to the end and say Yay! (Fluttershy style)
To be fair, you could do that with almost every episode (or comic book, if that is the case). They are not going to kill a fan favorite, so they will eventually find a way to beat the bad guy.

Its like every time they kill Batman (once it happened during the show, but several more times in comics). We just know the dramatic tension will not last. But at least I appreciate the animated series for being one of the few places where Superman was interesting and he looked like he was doing some effort during fights.

*sigh*

Yeah. You are wrong. Even in this particular episode it is not how you display it. There is no episode where he trusts Luthor and even if he works with Luthor from his side (in this particular episode he does not) he never trusts him, he just picks the lesser evil.

JL: Crisis on two earths: It is established around the beginning that this Luthor is not the same person as in the prison and even then they don't trust him.

A better world: Where the fuck does Sups trusts Lex in this episodes? You missed the point why Sups works with Luthor and you do not understand Luthors character.
My little comment was clearly hyperboli.
I responded with an exaggeration seeing how you reacted to me admidting to a little memory loss with a accusation of me never watching the show, I thought exaggeration was the name of the game... And of f'n course he never fully trusts Luthor!
He chooses to work with Luthor even if he never fully lowers his guard. And in "A Better World" Luthor helps them defeat the Justice Lords with the machine we see him with in the start of the episode.

But instead of writing about the various interesting aspects of a character like Superman?s impact on the world around him, they stick to the same trite over and over again, perpetuating a terrible list of stereotypes associated with the character. You can be ridiculously powerful and remain interesting; many characters have done it. Superman appears to fear this exploration in favor of maintaining the status quo as a symbol of hope with little meaning given the lack of real conflict for context.
Wow, pretty much this.

To me, the defining panel of Superman is this:

The idea that this alien, a near omnipotent-god who saves the world daily, would stop to save a single suicidal girl using nothing more than base human compassion, is the very definition of what Superman should be in my eyes. That he finds strength and hope in someone on the brink of self-destruction, is something that only Superman could do. THAT is what Superman's core is, not trodding around smiling while saving cats from trees and lifting heavy objects. (yes not entirely accurate to more modern iterations, but that is very much the public impression of who he is)

I think he would be much more interesting if more writers simply added a bit more darkness and pain to Superman's personal/daily life. Not to make him "dark" or "gritty", as so many seem to want. But rather, his world should be a bit darker and nastier, to further emphasize just how super he is. He shouldn't effortlessly trod around fighting the good fight, his hair still perfect without a speck of dust on him. He should have to slog through the mud, really grit his teeth and persevere to succeed, yet remain noble and good through it all. Staying strong in spite of dire circumstances is inspirational, not simply being mighty and noble for the sake of it.

The need for more of a struggle I think would aid in his conflicts as well, make him more exciting and dynamic than: Kryptonite = Danger, No Kryptonite = All good. Whether that means de-powering Superman a bit or emphasizing his stronger opponents, so long as his fights have actual impact and pain to them. That's part of why I'm excited for the upcoming Man of Steel, since Snyder seems to be emphasizing that his new Superman will be much more "physical", as he should be. A modern Hercules in a way. (at least that's how I view it)

This picture really shows my view of how Superman should be while fighting:

Not saying he should be like this all the time, but it doesn't hurt to show Superman a bit ragged yet strong during conflict. Yea that pic will probably be in an entirely different scenario in the film, but still. Keep in mind that I'm not an avid comic reader or anything though, most of what I know about Superman comes from the films or past cartoon series, so perhaps I'm wrong. Still, I'd love to see this type of stuff in the new Man of Steel.

I didn't like him until I actually read some Superman comics. Some of the best writers in comics have got their hands on him at one point or another, Grant Morrison and Alan Moore most notably. I mean All Star Superman is one of my favourite comics ever.

I'd also that he has been an apsolute badass since the DC new 52.
