Read the title of the thread.

To elaborate, it seems every other day I see a thread bitching about the U.S.A. Now somewhere like 4chan, I wouldn't give a shit. I'd let it slide as elitists trying to piss off other elitists, or trolls trying to piss off... elitists.

But when I see the ignorant hate that is spewed on The Escapist, a place I've been visiting for 4 years, that's supposed to have an informed and intelligent community, I really have to wonder how much credit I'm giving the userbase that they deserve.

I've seen threads from "America was useless in World War 2", to "American economy is the worst in the entire world" to more recently "I hate the way Americans spell things" to "Would you join the U.S if they offered".

Every single one of those threads is populated by 3 kinds of people. 90 percent of them are either citizens of the U.S and hate it, or not citizens and hate it. The other 10 percent generally admit the U.S has it's problems, but also acknowledge that they are a GLOBAL FUCKING SUPERPOWER.

I almost never post on this site if my post is composed mostly of complaints. But this takes the cake. I'm sick of seeing all this stuff without explanation and I wan't some of the more active users who hate Americas guts to explain themselves.

Yes, we have our fair share of problems. I despise all of the wars we have started, I despise the crooks in congress, I despise the fact that we let the hungry suffer while the rich waste.

But you know what? Our pros probably outweigh our cons. Every natural disaster in the world we have sent some form of aid to. We harbor 13 of the top 20 universities in the WORLD in our borders. We have produced over 250 Nobel laureates, and our GDP is only a hair under the entirety of the E.U

So please, enlighten me. Why are we the scumbags that people say we are? Why does everyone who doesn't live here love the fact that they don't, and why does everyone here want to move out?

Please give me answers that don't suck. I took time to type this out and I will take the time to debate arguments you give me.

If this thread just dies, then it means nobody knows why they really hate the U.S.

Because people love to feel awesome about themselves, and they are clearly delusional.
Honestly, they're just in denial about 'Merica being the best place ever.
...In AMERICA.

As a Canadian I actually love the U.S., but certainly not all of your policies.

Also it's definitely true that some Americans take their patriotism to offensive levels. Mostly it's the ignorance of many Americans about the rest of the world that's irritating.

Yeah that's all true but speaking as an American and a history buff we've still been dicks to a lot of countries and it's just plain old more fun to sit around bashing a country for it's negative affect on the world then sitting around talking about how it has helped the world and recently we've done a bit more dicking...hmm lemme re phrase that we've helped many people in recent years but when we mess up it's much more noticeable/noteworthy. Personally I'd withdraw all foreign aid for a few years then if the world can handle itself without us we'll spend the money on fixing schools jobs and the like. If they can't then I'm sure the EU could step up.

Lewis Black put it best, I think.

This is comedy. But I'll bite.

Do we really tell everyone in the world we're better than them? When's the last time that in some way, shape, or form, the USA or someone representing it has directly told anyone in your country that they are simply better than you?

Also I'm now halfway through this and I realize it's just a rant. It's funny but his arguments barely hold any validity.

Maybe, but I don't give a shit. I got nowhere to be, and I really do wish to have a decent conversation about why people hate the U.S.

I don't hate Americans, I just dislike people who have over inflated egos and/or are ignorant. And when many Americans are going "FUCK YEAH AMERICA WOO GO TO HELL YOU FUCKING MOUNTIE" at me and my country, not to mention towards other nations as well (with varying insults used), it tends to get in the way of seeing the fact that there are many Americans who are not like this.

Fun story: a couple from Boston once asked my parents if they were from "french Canada or American Canada" on a cruise. Suffice to say, my parents never spoke to them again.

Because we don't use the metric system, we don't have healthcare, we don't have a good education system, etc.

I can't really understand it either. Sure we have our share of problems, but we aren't all complete idiots or scumbags.

I can understand joking about America, but actually spewing hate about it bugs me quite a bit.

True, I dislike many of our policies as well. And as for the offensive patriotism, that's something that can be said of citizens in any country.

And also, this isn't a debate thread. I'm calling out those folks that hate the U.S to explain to me what's so horrible about us. I'm not expecting much.

Not another thread of these!
America isn't perfect. Neither are European, Latin American, African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Antarctic, Nordic, Australian, etc. countries. Deal with it. The only difference with 'Merica is how obnoxious some Americans are, how their country has no name (this is more a pet peeve of mine) and how most are obsessed with the fact that we consider them only in stereotypes when in truth THEY are creating the stereotype that we hate them.

EDIT: Also, when you say "everyone that isn't here likes that they aren't" is bs, since you have a whole bunch of immigrants, legal and illegal going there, and it is a nation of immigrants by nature.

Generally the reason the world says they hate the US of A is because you, and mean this as a gross generalization, believe you are 'the shit'. Trying breathing down everyone's neck telling them that they need you. See how many times you get punched in the face.

Understandable, but I'd like to think that such run-ins are a byproduct of our large population. A large populations harbors more assholes, and since assholes are usually loud, it's much easier to spot them over a rational and intelligent person of the same nation.

Also, ignorance should not become a product of hate. If the couple that spoke to your parents were polite in the matter, maybe your parents could have simply informed them that there is no real "American Canada?" If they were being mocking dicks about it I can understand, but how can you hate somebody for not knowing something they were never taught about? It just isn't fair.

Obviously people over-exaggerate, Americans aren't the devil, but allow me to illustrate why I disliked America (Honestly, I like them more since Obama came in. Everyone does, even if it doesn't show).

Before Obama came in, Americans were arrogant as fuck. Some still are. You'd hardly be able to go a day on the forums that I was on without people saying how America was the number one country in the world. And how all the countries that didn't like America were jealous. You know that one guy at work or at school that's always going on about how he's the best. Ever. Of all time? You know how everyone hates that dude. Yeah, that's the strongest part of the hate for America. You guys used to be that dude

As for the WWII comment, it's probably because, well, America didn't join till the end. They didn't join until they were pulled in. The other countries did most of the hard work actually defending and whittling down forces and such, and America sweeps in at the end and then afterwards tries to make out like they single handedly won the war (See previous statement of arrogance).

As for you aid, yes, everyone actually likes that. But do you know how many times I hear from Americans on a daily basis that you guys should just cut the aid all together because it doesn't benefit you? And this didn't start with the GFC, it's something I've been hearing on forums since I got on when I was 13. This makes you seem self-centered

Your foreign aid policies are okay, but they're also tied in with alot of shit. Like the fact that American aid for health clinics is dependent on the fact that said health clinics can't advertise, suggest, or even comment on Abortions. They're not allowed to give out information on it, or their funding gets cut (might have changed in the last few few years). This makes you seem controlling and dominating. Not cool

Then we get to the most publicized military involvements that I know of. Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan. There were war crimes committed on so many levels. Seriously, Agent Orange anyone? Lining up entire villages of innocents and slaughtering them during Vietnam War? Your mercs selling children as slaves and entertainment in Afghan? Taking over places in Iraq without even letting the people have a say? I may have gotten Iraq confused with another country, because honestly, I haven't keepen up with the news on the wars. Seriously the rest of the world is sick of your constant warring. As the rest of the world sees it, you pick a country that wronged you slightly or has resources you want, invade it, set up corporations to let Americans profit out of it, install your own forces there and just act like dictators.

These are just surface reasons. There may be many others, these are just the first that step to mind for me (I'm skipping over you politics, really, that's just too much for me to get into, I need to go down to the shops today, and I could write an entire essay on why your politics suck). Yes, it's not the majority of Americans who act like this, or support it, but it is however the Vocal Minority. Which means that over the last decade at least, the rest of the world only sees these people and their opinions. Sure, we shouldn't judge a nation based on their Vocal Minority, but after so long, and being so loud, people do. They just, do

I'm not here to pick a fight with you, I'm just explaining why people hate the US

I'm from the US, and I like the America. I've been around the world and seen other countries, and while I'll admit they are beautiful and have some beautiful women, I just like my native country the best.

I don't know why people hate it so much. Most Americans who say that the US is a terrible place need to get out and see that we have it better than most of the world. We don't have rampant issues with starvation, we don't have to worry about civil war.

Yeah, we (the country) have some issues, but overall it's not a bad place to live.

You cant count that (bible belt)......thats just not fair.
Ok, fine.

However, I'm replacing my bible belt complaint with "religion has a disturbing amount of influence in our government".

Politicians like to sprinkle it around speeches I don't feel like looking it up but it was during the last presidential debate.
