why does everyone expect all snipers to quickscope?

because fuck good snipers.
i sniped a lot in Halo 3 thanks to my friend, MW2 and BO. it was shit in CoD because nobody plays like that. its worse in BO because snipers only have pistols, the crossbow and the ballistic knife, so you cant get to a decent position (unless its Array and you get to the pylon fast)
also, people hate the good ones because:
thats my friend i mentioned before, and he gets a lot of rage from the other team.
that channel is 80% sniping and 50-50 Black Ops and Reach.

Becuase their pricks my arguement to them is just "Snipers are meant to snipe, in real life a Sniper would never do that"

I'm surprised the word "quick" can be applied to any term used in a console-shooter.

Don't let the elitists get to you. They feel the need to feel superior through any means possible. If what you do works, then just do it. If what you do is fun, just laugh at the people that take the game so seriously.

I dunno why. I remember I lost a game of Resistance 2 to a guy who I swear must have been a Marine sniper or something! He would re-locate at every opportunity he got and pick off anyone unlucky enough to pass through is crosshairs.

Guess those people who quickscope are compensating for the fact that they can't snipe honestly.

I don't dislike quickscoping, but in games like demolition, search & destroy, or headquarters it gets really fucking frustrating to deal with people running around with that.
I feel there should be a specific game mode where you can do legitimate quickscoping and it would be like free for all but in all other game modes quickscoping would be disabled and you would have to hardscope to get kills with it.
The quickscopers would have their own promised land and they might leave everyone else the fuck alone. >.>

BEcause as others said. It's the meta-game of modern 'competitive' shooters. Sniper role as in, the regular marksman camping type, is just simply not viable. You are useless to the team, no matter how many kills you rack if you stay on spot and pick off stragglers. Quick scoping is the way to bring sniper rifles into the actual combat, where it matters.
More often than not, unless the map/game is built around defenders/attackers positions, snipers are useless if they are not mobile, every other role benefits the team more.

Depends on the gametype, IMO. In MW2 deathmatch, good snipers are way more useful to their team than good run-and-gunners, because they don't give the other side a bunch of easy kills. In objectives, a good sniper can lock down an entire area. And when the secondaries are as powerful as they are in CoD, it's okay to have a specialist primary when you can go around gunning people down with the raffica or spas when mobility's important.

Because everyone that plays MW2 with a sniper rifle, quickscopes (untrue)
I remember playing an S&D game a few weeks ago, and because I was bored (I was 8 - 0) and it was the last round, I picked up the sniper that my most recently slain enemy dropped (FMJ Baretta) and went looking for the last guy. I finally found him, scoped in, took my time, and blew his brains out.
I immediately un-muted both teams (I play MW2 with everyone muted so I can soundwhore better), and the enemy team was "that kid's so bad, he hardscoped"
Lol, so I turned on my mic, and said "he's dead isn't he? It only took me 1 shot, not the spray and pray you cunts always do when you quickscope"

So the next game, just for spite, I sniped with my Intervention FMJ the whole game. I didn't do as well cuz I can't quickscope, but I still got 3 headshots, killed 2 bomb planters, and killed a guy camping on a claymore, with his claymore. After the game, I said "so, what was that about me being a bad sniper?" and they all left xD

The last time I accepted a 1v1 match, the guy invited 2 of his qs buddies to watch, and I used my UMP rush class (ninja, marathon, lightweight), and I got 50 kills to 6 deaths. I fail to see the point in any other 1v1 games now, since all the gametypes I play on MW2 are team-based.

So yeah, get used to people on MW2 being elitist cuntbags whenever you snipe properly.

Most players don't understand real combat. My only and single problem with MW and the like is that there is no emphasis on teamwork. It's every man for himself. Beyond that, there are the deep ingrained humanistic ideals that make the individual want all the glory to themself, plus also ingrained ideals of honor, bravery, and cowardice. So, individual gusto takes over, and thus, no tactics are used other than spray and pray. That is not how combat works.

Also:

Cardinal Rule 1 for Sniping: Hide in cover to fire.
Cardinal Rule 2 for Sniping: After every two/three max shots, change positioning.

Quickscopers in general aren't true snipers, though quickscoping in a tight spot IS a good skill to have. I've had plenty of matches where myself and a good spotter held a position for 90% of the match, all without quickscoping. A skilled sniper uses ALL tools to his advantage (sidearm included). Quickscoping is a skill, but not an indication of how good a sniper one may be. In fact, whoever relies solely on that one skill isn't much of a skilled player as they are exploiting the "auto-aim" functionality.

Because acting like a real sniper is not cool. Have you tried to quickscope in real life? You'll probably end up with a black eye from hitting yourself with the scope, or at worst broken glass in your eye.

Because hardscoping is for teh noobs, and only pros quickscope and rely entirely on autoaim and not their own skill.

May I suggest trying out the Battlefield series (currently Battlefield: Bad Company 2) instead of MW2? You might find it more enjoyable and natural as a sniper :) (or as just about any class as you might just end up preferring the game on the whole ^^)

I don't get this, either. You could use your gun as it's supposed to be used, but no, lets all risk not hitting the target and getting shot because we feel like being idiots. -_-

Well it depends on how you define quickscoping and on what platform you are playing it on. Quickscoping on PC requires a decent amount of skill because its essentially firing before you even get the iron sights up for a quick kill while sacrificing some chance to missing it. However if you are good enough you will get them most of the time like you do on CoD4 comp play on the PC.

Quickscoping on console is a completely different matter with auto aim since it practically puts your reticule on their face with the auto aim and then you can get an instant kill without worrying about aim

Anyone else note that he MISSED most of those shots? At least in RL he would have, he was whole feet off of many targets and behind their movement, not leading, and the lame game gave him the kills anyways. COD multiplayer SUCKS for hit registration.

He got one excellent headshot that I saw though, kudos for that, nice shot.
