Bad script, bland characters, bland gameplay, bland art design, even the setting is made bland and generic by... bland and generic scenery. I don't think I need to mention some of the bugs that crop up.

Graphically the game is not bad. Overall, the game isn't bad or good, its just common. What is mind boggling how people flock to a game that brings nothing to the table. Forge is about the only feature worth a damn.

It suffers from the same problem GTA does, its just not fun unless you're building ramps to launch cars and bikes off.

Halo haters don't hate Halo. Halo haters hate Halo fanboys. Halo fanboys make Halo out to be the end-all be-all of FPS's and worship Master Chief as a God. The reality is that Halo was a pretty mediocre FPS and there were many superior shooters on the PC when Halo came out. The more hype and praise that Halo got, the more irritated those of us that have played better games got. There were a lot of things I hated about Halo (the stupid story, the vehicle controls, the dumb attempts at humor, ect.) but it's far from the worst game I ever played and I wouldn't say I HATE it. I do hate Halo fanboys, though. I hate them with a passion. Not as much as I hate Blizzard or Apple fanboys or even Star Wars or Star Trek fanboys, but Halo fanboys are definitely in my top 10 list of People That the Earth Would Be Better Without. I do believe that the Halo franchise is the absolute most overrated franchise in video game history. Moreso than the Final Fantasy franchise or Mario or Zelda. They just aren't that great. There are much better FPS's out there.

I used to hate it then I played through the series. Now I think far worse of it...

... I just don't care about it.

I mean hate comes from fear, fear of competition, fear of marginalisation, fear of some great change. But Halo there is nothing, it is a very serviceable shooter with a fairly good space yarn. It's not amazing but it's not so bad that I am offended by anyone considering it good. Over-hyped, maybe, but definitely not the most over-hyped thing in this industry,

You can be a lot of things and I think it's a lot worse to be unremarkable than hated.

Yet at the same time, I did play through all the halos fairly amused, they ARE playable, there IS enjoyment to be had and the developers knew what they were doing.

Captcha: people's youtinKi

How's that for weird.

I don't hate Halo. I hate people who PLAY halo. They are the biggest dicks in the world and take the fun out of playing it.

You know, I honestly like Halo. Compared to the majority of shooters we have today, it's fast paced, arcadey, and unrealistic fun. But I hated it when it first came out. The reason? Compared to the shooters we had then, it was slow paced, overly realistic, and the "feel" was off. I still dislike it to an extent, because Halo: Combat Evolved is the single game that is most responsible for the modern, slow paced games that only allow two guns, a grenade, and a melee weapon, which also do away with health packs -- although Halo 2 has a lot to answer for that last one. I just find it ironic that the genre has exaggerated the features that made Halo so unique to the point that the series, with very few gameplay changes over the years, now occupies the exact opposite niche that it held when it was first released.
uh... what?

Fast-paced is a relative term, and relative to most shooters Halo is slow:

In CoD(or MoH or blank.blank.blank.) it takes at most half a clip of an assault rifle to take someone down, and that is with terrible aim, recoil and body shots.
In Halo you would be lucky to take down an opponent's shields while shooting him in the face with half a clip of an assault rifle.

As for the Halo haters: Are you sure the haters are really hating and not just pointing out the series' flaws when the fanboys are wanking off about it? In addition some people get tired of being fed the same damn thing for a decade, can you really blame them for that?

I don't hate it, I'm just not very good at it...at all. I don't tend to play games where I can't find my niche in, but that doesn't mean I won't play it a friend's house or something.

I hate Halo because the series put out 2 of the best games this decade in my opinion (1 and 2) and then overnight became fairly mediocre (3, ODST, Reach).

dude.. because it's a terrible game. Don't you hate terrible games? The question you should be asking is: why don't I hate halo?

Cause it was a Game that had a full prize, but putted more efford into it's Multiplayer.

And lets say: Humans vs. Aliens topic got pulled out of the hat too often to be really intresting if presented in such a standart way.

And since Halo2, fans that are somehow praising it more then Monks and Nuns Praising Jesus wich brought me and many people I know even further from the Point of interest.

Think movement speed, the ability to jump, and just the general level of mobility, not how quickly you die. When the comparison is to Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament, Halo is slow. When the comparison is to Call of Duty, Halo is the next best thing to Doom.

Halo CE and Half Life 2 remain the two titles that have defined the modern shooter. Everything else springs from there. More recent titles continue to mess up more than they improve.

Also, multiplayer is responsible for all the worlds ills.

I recently became neutral against all of popular culture that I had no interest in. It makes life much easier.

Personnaly,I just don't care much for it.I played through the first, and meh,not my cup of tea.
What I dislike are the halo fanboys, the ones who will actively mock any other fps game because it's not Halo.
You can just replace the "halo"'s in the second by any game, ever(and adapting the genre,of course)

I don't hate the halo series, but as a FPS game it seems pretty weak in comparison to others.

Also, the halo fan boys make me hate halo. They are the most unbearable people to talk to.

admittedly how well the series has aged is highly debatable and possibly the main point of argument

Hey everyone, this is my first post on the escapist forums but I've been reading a few forums and it came to my mind, why does everyone hate Halo? I don't see anything wrong with it. Bungie has made a whole new universe that has spawned books, games and even machinima(which was good up to around last year, now we all wait for Rooster Teeth to make the next season of RvB). So this is my question, why do you dislike/like Halo?

Edit: So from what Im gathering it's...

1. People want to be cool and go against something popular

2. People play for 5 minutes, don't do well= hate
Haven't you heard hating Halo is old news
the new flaming bag is Call of Duty.

People mostly hate things like that because ALL FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS SUCK!!!!![sub]I'm just kidding[sub]mostly[/sub][/sub]

here's a serious answer. FPS games get so many sales that new developers would be stupid not to debut with an FPS. so all the other generas have dwindled into obscurity.
and most people (myself included) blame Halo for being the first big-selling lame FPS.
But currently Call of Duty has been getting much more deserved stick for releasing the same game 3 times in a row giving it an HD makeover and releasing it 4 more times. then having the gall to re-release the original bad graphics and all on the XBLA.
