Whats the big deal abut minecraft? My freind showed it to me and there was nothing interesting about it.I just simply thought it was boring.I dont understand the objective, apart from building stuff and staying away from monsters. He then showed me a hacked version and that was equally as laggy and slow. Or maybe its just me. I mean i do like the single player aspects of a game better than any oher part. Video game stories are a main aspect of a game that i enjoy. Anyway whats every one else's opinion on minecraft?

honestly though its just plain simple fun.

because it's like lego with infinite building blocks. no kid in the world would not see the appeal.

It's fine for a while but once I built my doom fortress, with solarium, I was done. Maybe if I can find a server not run by Mine-iacs or can play with people I know I'll get interested again.

Well, for me, it's probably because video game stories are, for the most part, a ball of moldy earwax. Badly written. Badly plotted. Badly acted. And the worst part is it's a frucking movie you get to just sit there and watch. That's great gameplay, constantly hitting the skip button.

Just outta interest, have you sat down to try it for yourself? As in started from scratch in a new world, dug yourself a hole for the night, then set about making a house in the morning?

It's certainly worth just experimenting to see what you can discover on your own :)

I find it's a massive timesink into creating things within the realm of a huge lego set so I really enjoy it. Though it could do with a basic recipe card, listing the essential items you'll need to create to begin with (a door, crafting table and pick)

You have too have a project. Give yourself something to do, stick to it and then the time will fly by.
I don't play it much at the moment myself. I tried to build a castle but as it was nearing completion the universe turned against me and the map dissapeared. Havn't been able to get it back and can't be bothered building anything else.

For me, the challange is just surviving. No one will argue that once you've build your doom fortress/luxary mansion/golden phallic symbol that you can live in, you're pretty much done. Nothing can touch you and you're set for life. But actually BUILDING it, fending off skeletons, dodging creepers, THAT'S the fun in the game. And if you're looking for challange, go cave diving. Walk into the mobs home territory and try to raid the fridge there. There's a lot to find in the caves and dungeons, and it's always a challange, except on peaceful, of course.

No game is for everybody... However, the main reasons (IMO) are
1: It can run on a relatively old computer.
2: Its creative
3: Its co-op/multiplayer
4: Its cheap.

Those are some serious boxes being checked.

Might not be for you. I'd actually try it first.

People have compared it to Lego already but heres how I see it;

Imagine a game where you play as Lego Men in first person and have an infinite amount of blocks to build with without having to worry about physics. A lego world is generated at random by a well developed algorithm, and you can explore mine and build on this world as you wish. And just to top it off we have enemies, multiplayer and a huge crafting system with tons of usuable items such as mine carts and redstone.

Hell Lego alone is fun enough.

Because it's fun. It's hard to explain, really. It's like when you're building something in your garage, which, while not always that interesting, gives you something to do, and keeps you entertained while you're doing it. You hear the Lego comparison, but it's more like having an infinite number of the base block, and being the minifig Lego man, redesigning the world around you, at whim, as you'd like it to be. Once you have a project, you want to see it to the end. It gives you purpose, and entertainment.

Its just not your cup of tea. Appreciate a game for its subjective qualities (Minecraft's facilitation of user made content, obscenely large environments, etc) and go do something you prefer.

I didn't enjoy Mass Effect, but that doesn't make it any less of a quality title, now does it?

And this is why you don't like the game.
Minecraft is good due to
1) Well made monsters which both scare players, and are unique with their attacks and personality.
2) creative tools
3) constantly changing game and world.
4) popularizes something new and different.
5) is not about killing things like 90% of the main stream.

Why everyone likes Minecraft;

a) Because it's really good.
b) Because it gives you a huge sandbox world where anything is possible and your only limited by your imagination.
c) Because creepers are the scariest and yet most awesome enemy in any game ever.
d) Because it's really f*cking good.
e) Because Mojang's friendly and trusting attitude towards it's community is so refreshing in an industry filled with Blizzards and EAs.
f) Because it's modding community is the best I've ever seen for any game.
g) Because it's really really f*cking good.
h) Because it's apparent absence of a story is made up for by the countless adventure maps, RP servers and Shadow of Israphels ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Gi9-UZKYo4&feature=channel_video_title, yeah it's an LP, but whatever).
i) Because it's a one time purchase that's frequently updated with new content.
j) Did I mention it's really bloody good?
