Why does everyone love *Blank*? I don't understand *Blank*!

I don't like Gordon Freeman. There, I said it.

I have nothing against him, I just don't understand why people attach so much to his character.

Could anyone tell me what they see/like in the character?

Is there anything in gaming that you just can't stand or just don't really like, that other people hold dear, and if you're one who holds it dear, why? Help others understand!

EDIT: I take the point about people being tired of hate threads. This isn't intended as one, so I've rephrased to be a little more positive.

Actually, I'm a Half-Life fan, and I completely agree with you. Alyx, Eli, Kleiner, those are all the good characters of the HL universe.

I might say it for realistic bullet physics. To me, there's something peacefully simple about bullets hitting the spot where your crosshair points, the moment you click. Otherwise, it just becomes frustrating and finnicky.

For sure. I haven't played loads of Half-Life, but from what I did play I found everyone except him to be quite interesting. He's more of a plot tool than a protagonist!

Bullet physics I have to concur. I really wish I liked the B:BC2 style of bullet-drop, but I just can't do the on-the-fly calculations. I find it a lot more enjoyable with WYSIWYG shooting.

I don't like regenerating health. The only difference between difficulty at that point is how much I need to use cover. It also takes away from people who like to explore levels.

How so?

Well people used to have to explore because they had to for health reasons. Without regenerating health you can always use health as a reward for good explorers and various other secrets for great explorers (which will be found as a consequence of looking for health). You can't really do it when people have infinite health and you can only reward people with weaponry so much.

Because you no longer have to look around for a Med kit to refill your health if it just regenerates automatically is probably what he meant. Edit: Well I was sort of right.
OT: I just didn't like The legend of Zelda: Orcarina of Time, for me all of the puzzles and looking around and going back and forth between sections of the dungeons and collecting rupees for certain items just isn't fun for me, I prefer to just be given some enemies to slash/shoot and when I slash/shoot them all finish. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's just not the kind I like.

I read the thread title as "Why does everyone love Brink? I hate Brink!" I don't hate Brink, but it does look shit, and I don't know why people are hyping it so much.

I don't think Zelda is good either, I have some nostalgia attached to Oracle of Seasons, but it isn't a good game. The only Zelda game I did like is The Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks for DS, which I'm yet to complete. Also, Bioware. I don't see what's great about their games. The stories are balls, the gameplay suffers for it and they're given too much credit for the shit they fart out.

I agree with you. Blank is terrible. Has absolutely nothing going for it, pushes no boundaries, and, really, is just bland.

I don't care much for ironsights. They don't ruin a game, but some people seem to regard them as essential to their enjoyment of a shooter, and it baffles me.

Gotta say, I've come to love iron-sights, much as I thought they would annoy me. Depends on the gun though. If you have a gun with a single easy to see point you have to move to your enemies to make them die, I like them, but when the sight is half as thick as the gun, or the gun blocks half the screen (Looking at you, New Vegas cowboy repeater) I just hope there's a reflex sight option.
