I don't think I can take much more of this...

How many more threads about Halo do we need?
You've only been here a month, imagine how longer term users feel, they... just... won't... stop!

#If I ever got mod powers the first thing I'd do is ban someone who starts a Halo thread, it'll be the only thing I ever did as a mod, but it would feel good.

Well, for one thing it's the most salient symbol of both the Xbox and console shooters, both hated by numerous Sony/PC fanboys.

That's the biggest reason I think, but annoying fans follows closely.

Halo 3, did they even add a new gun?
Several, as well as new vehicles, enemies, gametypes, and customization options (both functional in the case of custom games and Forge as well as purely aesthetic).

Anyone who's played the best two levels of the campaign would know about the new weapons and vehicles.

I'm not attacking you, I'm actually curious, what weapons? I know the vehicles, and I beat the game multiple times. I fear I am losing it... I honestly CANNOT recall lol.

So far, all I've found out is that Halo is over-rated (which I mentioned in my opening statement...) and that the fan base is either pretty good or god-awful. Are there any other reasons, because in my opinion that dooesn't really count up to the amount of hatred that it does recieve (basically quite good but not as good as it could've been and personal abuse from an american kid online...)

Oh, and by the way I did use the search bar, and none really answered my question. Saying "Use the Search Bar" really doesn't help, it just makes it more flamy and seems quite unnecessary.

Halo is hated against for several reasons.

1. It's an average FPS that is over hyped.
2. It's fan base is 15% decent people, 85% dumb asses.
3. I forgot the third, but I am sure there is one.
Pretty much what I think

Although, I've been here for less than 4 weeks and I've seen about 20 Halo threads. STOP!

This is because most things involved with Videogames are Irrational. Of coruse it makes no sense.

People went from worshipping Blizzard to spitting at it like Cobras before and after the Release of WoW.

Spartan Laser is the most significant. Then there's the Brute's Spiker, Mauler, Gravity Hammer, Spike grenade, and Firebomb grenade. There's also the new version of the Assault rifle. An entirely new class of weapons in the Machine Gun, Plasma Cannon, and Flamethrower.

I don't think that's true, if you had used the Search bar you would have found eight Halo threads created in the last 24 hours, 18 within the last week and shed loads more after that. At least two in the last seven days would have covered the questions you ask here.

Searching 'Why Halo' or 'is Halo' will get you many threads that cover exactly the topic you are discussing. If you had searched you would have seen them already, so you would know exactly why so many 'flamey' posts are being directed this way.

All using Title only searches.

#Edit

Searching 'hate halo' got me this http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.78469#977844
it's not even locked so you have no excuse for not necroing it.

Ah, I see now. I only saw a subset of those as 'new' and others 'reworked'.

They weren't my usual arsenal so I forgot about them. And I thought the Spiker was in 2, so I guess I am mixing games.

Every game has fans and detractors. Halo currently has a larger base of fans than almost any other game. Just as every physical action has an equal and opposite reaction, so does every popularity have an equal and opposite backlash.

Detractors of a game tend to be more vocal the more they feel they are in the minority. For example, crappy licensed games such as Open Season and Transformers are generally regarded as bad games, so the people who dislike them (i.e. nearly everyone) don't bother to mention them. Final Fantasy and Gears of War are both game series that are quite popular but somewhat divisive, so people who dislike either one will put some effort into criticising them, but they won't go over the top because they know a lot of people agree with their opinion. Halo is regarded as a good game by the majority of gamers (based on reviews and the non-Escapist population), so the people who don't enjoy it feel like they need to shout down the teeming masses of those who do, whether they say it's outright bad or just "overrated".

The Escapist seems to have a disproportionate share of people who dislike Halo and want to tell everyone about it. I don't know why this is. It might be because Zero Punctuation attracts the sort of people to the site who like to criticise things and attack things that they don't personally enjoy. That's just a theory, though.

Interestingly, many of the people who passionately criticise Halo don't have anything really bad to say about it. A typical complaint will simply say "I hated it" and either give no reason or point to aspects of the game that are common to many other games, if not totally standard for the genre. Examples include: the subtle auto-aiming, the generic story, the space marine protagonist, the "easiness" of the game (ignoring the ability to set the difficulty setting), the regenerating health (although didn't bother them in COD4) and so on. Others, such as NDWolfwood5268, claim that the first game was good but later games in the series are total crap because they only improved on it a little bit and didn't add many new features; anyone who can explain that logic is free to try.

A lot of criticism also centres on the story, often with reference to the superiority of story in games such as Half-Life 2. These people apparently have no problem with the hundreds of other games that have a more minimal story than Halo. They are also often not willing to even consider the quality of the multiplayer experience, although they seem fine with Team Fortress 2.
You, my good sir, might be my new favourite person on this forum. Kudos.

It attracts hatred because of two things.
People feel it was overhyped (Even though, I have to admit, it was a great game) as the second coming in game form- which, it wasn't! It was good, and the first ever time I saw co-op, so it was inventive- but not solid gold.

The second is the online multiplayer. When it became the resting place for 12 year olds using the voice masker to try and claim they're 21 while screaming cusswords like they just discovered them and jerking their level around so that they LOOK like they're new and can rape everyone at their supposed level for the sake of not having a single challenge in the game, most people said, "Screw this, I'm going to play something without you jerks." Then people began to leave and the ratio of 12 year olds with issues to real gamers became about a trillion to one. It's become the gaming version of /b/.

Halo was a good game but too many people copied it. Fire Wrorrer, Dredd Vs Death, need I go on?
On the fanbase thing it's 90%. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitle3tinj4tz]
Note that good game means good Xbox shooter with few short comings.

It gets sooooooooooooo much hate because people determine how much a game is good based on how much it's hyped and how good it is when it comes out. Halo 3 isn't the only over hyped great game out there. Killzone 2 had longer time to come out and barely anyone says anything public about how it's overrated. Same with Half-Life 2, and hundreds of other games. I just hate how Halo 3 attracts all this negative attraction when there's other games that would fit just as well. But people won't attack the PC games just for the fact they're on PC even though there's console games that are better than alot of PC games.
