How come we use currency, what if everything was free and done by charity workers?
How about we build robots that do all the work (including their own maintenance (Yes, it's possible, shut up!)), and spend a part of the countries own budget on buying about 3 robots per person. Those will then work for that person, and the income will be transferred to your bank account.

BAM! Automated Communism.

What do you mean "everything done by charity workers"? You mean the jobs that we have now?

So your vision is that a huge portion of the population got shit for free (which they'd probably have NO ownership over due to it being completely free), and then some small bunch of people would be those who worked their asses off and got nothing for it?

Or one where everyone has to work to get shit for free, so they could lead a normal life, and not die on the streets?
"But what if those who don't work jobs also get free shit?" Well, that's the point, then there'd be a buttload of freeloaders. If everyone got free shit, there'd be freeloaders. If those who worked for society got free shit, there'd be a lot of homeless people.

And, above all, people like to have more shit than others. It gives them incentive to thrive, and to go forward. If no one got rich, and everything was free, no one would probably put as much effort into doing things that usually net people lots of money (new, revolutionary ideas, products, services etc.).

Because we'll end up in a more extreme situation than what occurred in Soviet Russia. Everyone will come to believe that everything is already provided for them, and just stop working altogether.

Thats probably the most extreme form of communism ive ever seen.

It wouldn't work thats why we don't do it, whats the point of working if you get nothing for it.
Communism WTF!, communism isn't about working for free it's about equality, the pay depends on the skill, ALL doctors get paid the same salary, ALL bin-men get paid the same salary.

OT Currency is used as a bartering tool without it we'd be trading material things for other material things.
e.g. "Hey steve give us a barrel of your home brew and you can have three chickens from my coop."
Of course without currency you could demand whatever you liked for desperately needed goods.
e.g. "Hey steve you still need cancer medicene, I'll give you mine if I can sleep with your sister."

just like any other reason to compete and "lord over someone" simple as that. sure it was brought in as a different form of exchange, but now a days, all it really is, is bragging rights, and a pain in the ass >_>

Because if we didn't, everyone would be damn lazy and wouldn't do anything. I personally enjoyed the whole trading one thing of value for another but you need some for of payment or the like to keep from lazing-up.

It's very odd, because humans are the only species to use Currency and also is the only species without a natural predator.
NATURAL predator, There are many MECHANICAL predators for us.
OT: Because as most people stated, People are assholes.
Thats all the answer you need.
I don't understand what you're trying to say? There are machines out there that are hunting down humans? That's news to me.

If you're on about guns etc, they're man made and operated by humans, thus it is not a predator. Police don't shoot anyone and everyone because they have a gun.

Because we all want something in return other things.

Currency replaces the old trade system in which we would trade things of value for other things of value, currency is ultimately worthless and can happily be traded for somthing of real value (food etc)

Sounds like the talk of COMMUNISTS!

Seriously tho, humans are fickle and selfish beings, we don't want to give something away unless we feel like we're being properly rewarded.
Essentially we invented money to add a label of worth to everything, kind of like we did with letters of numbers in a sense, except for items.
Humans are swindlers by nature, being cunning, ruthless and general dicks to eachother to survive.

Currancy works.
Its the easyest base for all commerce.
Its lighter then most objects are worth theyer weight, easy to produce, and has a set value, meaning no matter who you take it to, it holds the same exchange rate.

Money travels.

It simply wont work because of our system of government. It could work if it was more like the military where everyone had to work & all the necessities were provided with luxuries awarded on basis of merit.
These necessities, luxuries & services are produced from the work everyone does. Any able bodies moochers who wont lift a finger can be locked up or exiled.

This method would also ensure technological advancement as money & profits dont exist to hinder it, nor would there be drugs & organised crime. With a little refining it could work.

So we don't have to deal with the strain of dragging our daughters, pigs and shinier rocks around.
