Why does Valve treat console owners like Second Class Citizens?

Because, as far as FPS games go, console owners ARE second class citizens. Consoles were never meant for FPS games; they can run beat-em-ups and platforms and many other kind of games very well, but FPS and RTS games are a PC exclusive - and I won't even talk about modding. Hence Valve, being a mod-friendly FPS developer, doesn't much care about console owners, and is unlikely to change.

PC elitists make console fanboys look downright reasonable.
Haha, I agree completely. I'm actually quite shocked by what has been said by people on this thread. If PC gamers really are the Canines' Spheres of gaming, then you'd think they wouldn't act like 5 year olds.

To all PC and console fanboys, stop calling each others console tards and PC elitists. I know it might seem like the easiest way to get your point across without having to use any complex arguments, but it makes you look silly.

Get some good discussion going instead of bashing each other and calling each other names, that's what 5 year olds would do. :S

Oh, and both sides are guilty of this, so CUT IT OUT.

Thank you in advance.

I'm with Cameraman.

I don't have a 360, and PERSONALLY have reasons against owning one, but I've never felt contempt for a 360, PS3, PSP, or Wii owner. I've had fun with each console so it's just dumb to criticize them.

Anyway, as for TF2's updates, it's not Valve's fault. Heck, in their situation I have to say I'd be pretty much without any ideas as to what to do to fix the problem. It's that Microsoft doesn't allow any updates over 50 MB without some Microsoft Point cost attached to it. (Obviously, TF2's changes are WELL over 50 MB)

So yes, basically Microsoft, not Valve, is treating its console owners like second-class citizens. Spot on.

Valve is in a total lose lose situation here. Simply put they are not allowed to release and offer the update for free (on the Xbox360 at least). So they are forced to chose between releasing it and charging for it which will undoubtedly bring in a box car full of QQ that console owners have to pay for what PC owners are getting for free. Or they do what they are doing now and leave things be in which case they are accused of being neglectful to the console base.

On an unrelated note this is one of a many reasons that I will almost always buy a PC copy of a game over a console copy

So since Valve is primarily a PC developer its ok for them to be a year late with an update?
Stopr whining! PC owners had to wait longer for Mirror's Edge, Street Fighter 4, Mass Effect amongst SO MANY OTHERS[I/]. There are developers that are more loyal to one format than another. Get over it!

To add to that, EVERY SINGLE Call of Duty 5 update/map pack, we don't get a prestige edition of MW2, no Gears of War 2 and had to wait longer for the first... maybe they are making up for Microsoft being mainly focused on the 360 (at least seems that way to me)...

Hum, the 360 probably wont get updates for a while. In the mean time you could do some things that could get you your updates faster. Like getting steam and a digital copy of TF2. This is something I can easily see you being able to do before noon today. The requirements aren't that drastic (I am typing on a truly NON-GAMING computer and even I can run it on low quality. Or if you don't want to be a PC gamer, but still want some more Valve love, go pick up a copy of L4D. If you refuse to do any of this, you are unreasonable and deserve to have to wait in your non-valve misery.

(it's ok, you didn't get totally screwed on the 360 version of the Orange Box. Hell, I bought it on the PS3 before I got steam. At least your version is fully functional.)

Damn you. I was about to post a similar topic about this. And also bring up the fact that PC gamers always seem to get free expansions Eg. Left 4 Dead new map; crash course its free for Valve's beloved PC gamers but not for any console users. This is a serious question why do PC gamers get free stuff for games and we have to pay for. Oh and im not including survival mode for left 4 dead as Valve being generous as its the most un-imaginative expansion ever, its basicly blocking the exit for all the mini finalies and ramping up the numbers.

What's wrong with being a second class citizen? Screw you and anyone else who thinks it's a bad thing.

More on topic though, they don't. They really, really don't. Valve have always been a PC based company, so it's understandable they have a bit of a time with consoles. No less porting five different PC games to two consoles, in one game, can't be a freaking walk in the park. They've got a lot of stick recently, but it's obvious the guys are trying. They got done over for the TF2 drops, they've been insulted for L4D2 and of course everyone is on their back for HL2 E3.

They've got alot on their plate. It's not suprising they can't get round to updating a game on ONE console, that's part of a set of five games.

Consoles are for hobbyists who don't really care about how little they know of software and hardware development and just want to play games between classes. PCs are for enthusiasts who don't care about the tech curve because they want the best experience money can buy with the best selection of games available. Valve makes PC games because it's easier and more cost effective.

I would be nice to see Valve give the console more love. They can make more money
You forget that a piece of the profit from a console game has to be kicked back to pay for the development of the console it's run on. Why would Valve want to share their profits with Sony just so they could have a PS3 title?
Wow, people like you are worse than the elites who say 'console tard.'

Valve usually takes long for everything, they may come out with it eventually.

OP is such a retard. its MS's fault not valve on the TF updates.

And anyway most developers treat PC gamers like 3rd class citizens so even if valve did behave this way I'd say HA.

OK, quick question to everyone going "Valve don't make as much money from consoles!"...

If they supported the console versions, wouldn't they get more money from it? If they weren't going to support it, why release it in the first place?

Ah well, remember kids, PCs are for porn, arguing and MMORPGs, Consoles are for games, they're both good at their respective areas, can't we all just get along? :)

Because all the PC people think consoles are inferrior.

I personally think PC's are better for unique game desines (EX Black and White)

I think consoles are better for Multiplayer (EX EVERY VALVE GAME)
