Rome: Total War, use numbers to amass armies then send them at folks to conquer. I would assume he dislikes the slow pace yeah? maybe he would rather have he enemies provide more of a challenge. the combat is fun, but nothing new comes with every battle. just lock all the melee infantry into melee and let the archers and cavalry muck about in thier own fields of expertise
I suppose that it's because the only difference between 90% of the units within a given battlefield role is their statistical differences. Heavy Infantry, Spearmen, Hoplite, Heavy Cavalry, Ranged Cavalry. there's more, but I don't find Flaming Pigs to be too usful. I also don't know how easily you can replenish a hurt unit of elephants
I guess swarming you opponents cities in an unending tide of elite infantry can get repetitive
frankly, I like roleplaying, I like the nifty extra bits (like Hyperboria) and how every General has thier own story but I never really felt too inclined to finish the campaign as the game dosen't provide me with much of a reward with every victory
hope that narrows it down
