Have you ever discovered a video on youtube which, if it existed in real life, would be the embodiment of a gem? But then you look at the views and realise the amount of people who have seen it couldn't fill a football stadium. It's always upsetting when someone goes through all that work and it is barely noticed, so this thread is devoted to those underappreciated videos that need to be shared with the community.

This video was the one that made me start this thread, it's a music video of "silent melody", a song from the game inFamous which is edited into some extremely impressive clips of the game itself. Yet it only has a 1000 views, pretty sad really.

So let's see what undiscovered gems the Escapist community has found.

Because it has been viewed by about 1000 people, the viewcount measures how many people has watched the video. That's why it doesn't have more views.

On an unrelated note, some people tell me I take questions too literally.

OT: Yeah, that video is just a re-upload.

Please filter everything I'm about to say through a filter of "I couldn't do better than that in a thousand years":

Meh. I liked the tune enough, and the video imagery wasn't hard on the eyes.

However...

Sloppy, uneven pacing, and no discernable pattern to the video images. It told no story that I could follow, had no apparent logical progression, and came across as just a bunch of random clips from the same video game mixed into a video at random with a song playing throughout. It felt muddled and disjointed.

And I also felt that the timing of the music to the video was inconsistent in places. When you have music in a video clip and no sound from the game, it's imperative that you time the beats of the action of the video clips with the beats of the music. I didn't think that this was done very well.

I don't have a PS3, so I've never played infamous. If I hadn't seen reviews of the game in the past and watched that video with no knowledge of what the game Infamous was about, I'd STILL have no idea whatsoever what the game was about.

By contrast, go to http://www.bulletstorm.com and find the video "Whip Kick Boom!" (or go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAF_waUaERQ). Look at the timing between the music and the action (especially with the shotgun knocking somebody back into the sky when the lyric "BOOM" occurs). In a minute and a half, you know what the game's about, and what to expect.

Granted, Bulletstorm was about hitting people in the face (or anus) with bullets, explosives, boots, giant cactuses or super-heated drill-bits, so they had an easier time conveying the point of the game in a video. They also had a huge budget to work with.

Another example of nearly perfect timing between the visual and audio action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhgvQHQ8SKU

It has a fair number of views, but I think it deserves to go viral.

Shameless I am. But I think this video is very under-appreciated.
