I watch MLP (gasp!) which here is a very drastic love/hate divide. I know that review scores a subjective and all be taken with a grain of salt. I know the type of games I like and so do my friends who help with recommendations. so it doesn't bother me much.

also your BTW statement seemed to contradict your first one. that or the lack of sleep is effecting me more than I thought.

I'm not really sure what you are getting at.

If you mean people are pestering you to play it and just won't accept that you don't like it then just reiterate to them that it isn't for you. At the end of the day they are just trying to share something with you that they enjoy. It's not a hostile intention.
I mean that one. Believe me, reiterating to some of these people is not going to make them realise that it's fine for me to not play it.

Oh btw, the worst argument put forward to me about not playing B:AC is this: "You are missing out as a gamer for not playing this game." Really? Are you also going to tell me that I'm missing out as a gamer for not playing Farmville or Nintendogs?
Then just ignore them, why does it matter that they think that? I think it's pretty clear that the majority of people in this thread for example are accepting of the fact that not everyone likes the same thing.

I wouldn't let it get to you tbh.

I'd like to hear these logical arguments of yours. I really enjoyed Arkham City and I'm curious to see what bothers you about the game.

The aren't about the game itself. Just my own interests.

But to give you an example:

Friend: "It's such a well made game. I don't understand why you don't want to play it."
Me: "Because I'm not interested as playing as Batman. I enjoy the movies, that's it. Just because I enjoy the movies, doesn't mean I have to play the game, even if the game is well made."

Well if Batman doesn't interest you whatsoever, then I don't even know why your friends should bother wasting their time. Do I think it's good? Yes. Do I think EVERYONE will like it? No. Do I think it's made out of diamonds and perfection? No.

The fanboys. They are the most annoying ones.
They really are. But in all fairness, I'm sure that my friends have been annoyed at me for going on and on about a game. I guess we are all fanboys/fangirls over something.

Arkham Asylum was meh. I assume City is the same.

Think what you will, do what you like, as long as it doesn't affect other people negatively.

That is an amazing quote and everyone should think that way.

I don't like FPS games because they are all samey

I still play them though to piss off the players who think they are amazing at the game.

the games that they are interested in aren't necessarily interesting to other people?
I absolutly accept others views, as everyone is entitaled to their own opinion. I completely don't understand why someone doesn't think Batman Arkham City isn't game of the year, but I accept that there are and can live with that. :p

I know how hard this can be. I know someone who loved the Blitzball from FFX and thought the Transformers movies were great. There are a lot of people who can't distinguish "I like this" from "this is high quality". I liked the Green Hornet, but I wouldn't defend it as a great work of cinema.

Try to look at it from the opposite side too, though. There are probably things you've been really excited about and found utterly amazing, only to have other people say "eh" about them.

Complete anarchy. End of the world.
I had to laugh at this. It'd be something like this:

Reviewer: "Decent gameplay, engaging plot with a few holes, interesting characters. Solid game; I recommend it. 8/10"
Fan: "DIE YOU BASTARD!!!1!"

Are videogames the only media where fans are enraged when somebody says good things about something they like?

I wouldn't quote on assuming something will be crap because I think it may be.

If you base on assumptions...you're an idiot. I'm sorry, but you're an idiot.

I think, therefore it is, just doesn't work in life....at all.

You know... because they CAN!

Well actually it's just that people have a tendency to think they are always right and if you findthis sort of person, ignore her/him.

I hate Batman and everything about him. I hated Arkham Assylum. And I wont play Arkham City.

You'd be surprised at the amount of hate I get for that. I dont think its a case of growing up- its a case of people being to narcissistic to see that they are not the center of the universe. That, my friend, is something you see at every age/level of maturity.
Ok, I can accept all of that except... how do you hate BATMAN?!?

He's friggin' BATMAN!

The only time it's okay to hate batman is when they try to shoehorn him into the other continuities. Why would they have batman existing in the same universe as superman? That's just dumb. 1 bullet is all it takes to kill batman, superman has laser eyes, is bullet proof, can hear shit all the way on the other side of the planet, can move fast enough to cause friction burns on the people around him, and can punch a crater the size of a city block in the ground.

Why not just have Superman spend a weekend in Gotham? He'd probably beat all the crime forever within the first few hours.

I already have my pitchfork sharpened and my torch ready!

OT: I'm rather glad to see someone with the same opinion as I. I felt the same way about AC and although there are actually many people who also found it lacking, the overwhelming majority loved it, so everyone else is going to get buried whether the other side wants them to or not.

Well...it seems to me you are talking past each other. Your friends are prolly arguing for the game by pointing out the good stuff; fluid combat, exploration, engaging story and whatnot.

You come up with a quasi argument; it JUST doesn't interest me. Well, it certainly wouldn't hurt to be a little bit more specific; i.e. elaborate please.

What exactly is it that doesn't interest you? The setting? The story? More importantly, WHY does it not interest you (I'm not suggesting it HAS TO interest you)? You see...that something JUST doesn't interest you isn't really an argument.

If it's NOT FOR YOU...then try to show that by describing what IS for you.

In other words: don't be vague and think that you are still making a point.

That example actually explains why they are trying to convince you.

Now if instead you hated the movies and think the whole setting is childish/unrealistic/whatever that could be a valid reason.
Having tried a somewhat similar game like Ascreed and hating the combat, would be a very good reason.
Disliking games in general would be a concrete reason.

Enjoy & not interested isn't much of an opinion at all.
If you want your friends to shut up, just fabricate a strong argument, like: I already played it somewhere and didn't like it.

"growing up" is an asinine concept without even a clear definition; "grow up" is honestly more something people say as an insult than anything else, as the person being insulted is never sure what their aggressor means exactly, but knows their insulted somehow anyway. Now, in regards to your issue I recommend not arguing with these people, let them say whatever they want to say as you smile and go on to the next topic, it's that easy. Remember It's just an opinion over a game, nothing more; it simply doesn't matter.
