Why Half Life 2: Episode 3?

Me and my brother were discussing this. So many people are saying that they want Valve to hurry up with Episode 3. Why? I would much rather have Half Life 3. If it's a full game then I would enjoy it a lot more than just having another episode added on.
Not saying that I wouldn't enjoy it even if Valve just makes another episode.

What do you think? Would you prefer to have Episode 3 or Half Life 3? What are your thoughts?

they would effectively be the same thing. At least, they better be after how long it's taking them to make it (if they even are at this point...).

Mostly becasue EP2 ended on such a cliffhanger and that the episodes would be a trilogy. Also there is the problem of continuem from said cliffhanger if they go to HL3 directly.

Then with HL3 there must be a new engine.

What I was wanting was a full Half Life 3 game because the episodes weren't very long, and I would enjoy getting more of the story in. They're taking their time making the game though. I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever they make, as long as they actually make it.

I would laugh SO hard after they finish the final Half life game, only to end it with Gordan Freeman waking up in the hospital from the explosion in Black Mesa that started the whole mess with a concussion...

So many years of waiting for these games, so many epic moments!! and they "never happened..." Oh my god that would be the funniest thing ever! Only because that would make so many people pissed off.

Anywho. I'd prefer Half Life 3. I never bothered with the episodes.

They need to finish the HL2 Episodes, before they do HL3.

They do seem to have forgotten the concept of episodic gaming though, given how long it's been since Episode 2 came out.

Considering that episode 2 ended on a cliffhanger, "Episode 3" is the only logical thing to call it. If episode 2 actually ended it, then yes Half-Life 3 all the way, but no. However, I'd be all for having episode 3 be as long as a full game.

Once they finish the last episode before a possible Half-Life 3. I will buy all of them in a bundle to play them all at once! The older episodes will be a lot cheaper by that point hopefully.

That way I will be able to experience them all straight through for the very first time in a marathon of pure awesome!

Episode concept: cheaper but shorter games, released more frequently. Yes, Valve got the first two down, but completely failed on the last one. Just work on the bloody thing already (or better yet, HL3), because even fanboys aren't all-forgiving...

Same here. I kept meaning to pick up the orange box for the episodes and portal, and I got portal off steam so I pretty much forgot the episodes.

I'd really like to see HL3, but at this point, I wonder how much I'd be missing out now having played the episodes. Then again, we could be dropped into HL3 the same way we were in HL2. The G-man wasn't alone, afterall.

I think people seem to forget valve answer to valve and valve alone. The eternal complaining about ep 3 is probably one of the things that enforces the hiatus on the product since they know what kind of nerd rage shit storm will happen if it doesn't automatically induce orgasm at the title screen.

Why do people want Episode 3? Ep1 + Ep2 + x = HL3. Take a crack at it and solve for (x). Maybe that will clear things up for you.
