Why has no one made a survival horror game set in post Judgement Day Terminator?

After watching Terminator Genesis (and then watching my DVDs of Terminator 1 and 2 to wash the taste out of my mouth) I've been wondering why a game where you're a survivor in the post nuclear ruins of the world trying to survive while avoiding the Machines hasn't been made. In this age where survival games seem to be making a comeback, you'd think a setting as iconic and different from the rest of the medium would be latched onto by someone to make a game out of it.

For whatever reason, nobody wants to touch the destroyed future of the first two terminator films. Salvation was the perfect opportunity to do an entire movie about the resistance rising, scrabbling day by day to survive and finally overthrowing skynet.

And somehow, they completely fucked that up. Instead of the resistance running around in pipes, living a miserable experience and surviving by the skin of their teeth, they had an entire air force at their command and were doing okay for themselves for much of the movie. A perfectly missed opportunity.

But a fair deal of horror games use just that and manage to pull it off. Depending on the route one takes with it it would be a stealth survival game or a stealth take-down game, just to scratch the surface of what one could do with the idea.

The idea might not be fun to you, but given which games have sold well in the past two years it's clear there is a market for this type of game.

I can see a post-judgement day Terminator game working as a turn-based tactical game like X-COM more than survival horror.

I'd be happy to play something like this.
Either as an fps survival, or the x-com team game mentioned by the good baron.

I think it's the setting that has me hooked though, and not just the terminator scenario.
Already said many times, I'm a sucker for post apocalyptica.

Because mass consumer wants to either destroy dem tarminatoz with gunz, or BE one. And I highly doubt that whoever owns the rights for Terminator franchise would ever be satisfied with a niche product.

But it could be a fun game though.

Because people who make movies usually know nothing about video games, and they listen to marketing people whose expertise is in "packaged goods" about what sort of video game they should make.

Because...that wouldn't be very scary. The war we see in the first two Terminator movies isn't really an environment fit for a horror. It's loud, bombastic, and terrible. Not quiet enough to have any kind of tense atmosphere that would invite any kind of horror experiences involving avoiding Terminators and all the other machines.

Because making an action game of Terminator is far easier and more profitable than a survival horror.

I think post-Judgement day future should be left to our imagination, short clips from T1 (T2 added nothing) and Kyle Reese's stories were enough to make it the scariest thing ever to my kid self. Salvation managed to fuck that up nicely. Fucking A-10s.

If I had to guess, it would be because that's not what people want from a Terminator game.

The Terminator franchise has always been about fighting back, the war with the machines. Yes, most of the movie is spent with the heroes running away, but they are still fighting. They're still unloading entire magazines and clips into the Terminator chasing them.
In the future, it's always about the war. The humans have already learned to fight back, and that's what people want to play. They want the epic war with the laser guns. When I was growing up, my friends and I all LOVED the arcade light gun game because the first few levels were set in that future. I'm still hoping for a movie set entirely in that future. The sense of desperation in all the battle scenes would be epic.

To the best of my knowledge, only once has what your asking for happened in the movies. In Salvation, Reese as a kid is shown running and hiding from the machines. And it was boring. That's not what the franchise is about.

Now, could this be done? Certainly. The idea of evading the machines, hiding in sewers and fighting as a last resort works. Alien: Isolation did that very well I think. But eventually, I think people who pick up a Terminator game are going to want to fight back. They're going to want to be able to triumph over the machines. They are going to want their own laser gun, because that's what they expect from the series.

There are two big problems with those approaches to gameplay though.

First, if the game is stretched out to a decent length (10+ hours or so lets say) is that by the halfway point it'll become a tedious routine. However if the game is short and priced at RRP then it'll keep the wow factor so to speak, but would it be worth the selling price?
Why would it become tedious after such a short length? People who like survival horror LIKE survival horror. It's not like a crappy stealth segment in an action game where you are longing to get out of the stealth and back to the action. Do you even survival horror bro?

Edit: Oh, only tangentially related, but still - when did people start thinking that ten hours was a "decent" length for a full price game? If I'm not expecting at least 20+ hours of gameplay then I'm not putting my cash down. 30+ hours if it's an RPG.
