Why hasn't Square made an FF7 remake?

And that make a new great RPG is better than cashing in on FF7 and didn't all of the other FF games after 7 tried to cash on doing nothing new .

They're probably busy working on some other projects, and besides, even if they did, hardcore FF7 fanboys- and there's more of them than you'd think- would scream and ***** about any and all tiny minutiae from the original FF7 game that wasn't included, and even if absolutely everything was included from the original, they'd complain that there was no new content. FF7 isn't a bad game, but from what I've observed, some of its supporters could be considered almost fanatical.

I think a better question is...WHY THE FUCK DID YOU MAKE 13 SEQUELS TO YOUR FIRST GAME?!!!!. And that's without spinnoffs like the ones on other consoles. I really think they should move on, Hironobu Sakaguchi has already left and made other games, he took with him any credibility the series had.

Don't get me wrong I liked FF at one point. You know when the games were 16-bit.

I'm with you there, a old, old game like FFVII is only worthy now of being put on PSN as it was, unless Square Enix plans to milk the FFVII series as much as they can, oh wait they all ready have. I would only be prepared to play the game if they completely remade the battle system and everything.
In my opinion, it's my least favorite Final Fantasy, and I don't want to call it a bad game because I'll never hear the end of it from fan boys, but I do consider it to be very atrocious.

More to the point, Final Fantasy has a phenomenal fan-base, and while they have remade Final Fantasy games onto the PSX and DS, I don't think they can get away with a remake onto a console. I can see them putting it on the PSP or the DS and then continuing to milk the FF7 fan base for money through new FF7-related video games, movies, and anime, but a remake might be biting off more than SquareEnix can chew.

The best way to keep someone wrapped around your finger is to wave the very thing they want most in front of their noses, and yet not let them have it.

But seriously I don't see why they don't, the sales for that game could potentially be a world record of some kind. Not only would fans rebuy it, but others who have heard about it and can't see past the old school graphics would as well.

I'd love a remake of FF7. I never liked the polygon graphics. I don't know why but the look of the game always bugged me.

It'd be nice to see it in better graphics and with some extras, but I agree with previous posters that no matter how awesome anything new in it would be it would never be enough.
Fans always want things they can't have (and thus fan fiction is born), the new things "would completely ruin the game!", and people would still want to be able to use Aeris in the final battle (even though she is so dead that not even a Phoenix Down would bring her back...).

If they ever did (fat fucking chance) remake it, I'd play, if not... I'll stick with playing the ones that came out after, or even -gasp!- new games.

Because they did not do too well making the Final Fantasy 7 franchise. FF6 (FF3 as it was called on the SNES) needs a re-make. A FF7 re-make would be fun to play, though FF6 hasn't even gone with a spin-off. I think a re-make for FF6 would make more money than a re-make for FF7 would.

I actually prefer to refer to FF6 as FF3, since the SNES version was the only one that I actually liked, since the music was epic on the SNES version, and it was different on the GBA version, and as far as I know the PS1 version as well. If you ask me, FF6 was the best in the series, with no "main" character, and deserves a re-make more than any other Final Fantasy title.

Maybe because it would NEVER live up to fanboys expectations.

People would want new content, then they would scream that the content breaks the original game.

Oh, also...remakes suck. Can't we try moving forward instead of constantly living in the past?
Yeah but that didn't stop them from making Dirge or the original advent children (the complete version actually rocks).

because the original can be easily and cheaply downloaded from the PSshop

and it's nowhere near the best game ever

It's going to happen, and I think it will happen in the next ten years, and I would bet it will be a launch title for the next generation of consoles. There is no reason for them, from a monetary standpoint, to not do it. Also, there are a lot of kids that have been weaned on incredible graphics who aren't going to but the original from PSN, because frankly it looks terrible compared to COD4 or other titles.

Square has shown nothing but a willingness to milk the franchise for all it is worth, what with the games, movies, figures, whatever else, I don't see how anybody could think this is not inevitable. Not only those reasons, but they have remade most of the other early ones already. I'll put everything I own on it; it will happen.

They don't have time. The developers would love to make one, but they're scattered to different projects. FFXIII is a big fat one, it has taken a lot time to develop, so it's only understandable that they've been busy.

Because the more people want it, the more willing they will be to pay for it.
Agreed. If Square were to wait another solid Decade when FFVII might be held as the gaming standard then square could release it then and charge 80 for the game 150 for the collectors edition and people would still buy it.

I thought they were remaking it??? And didn't they already remake it for the PC like 6 years ago.
It wasn't a remake, it was basically a port.
And... do we really want a remake of FF7? Maybe it was those crazy coloured blocks and polygons that made up Cloud's head that endeared us to his character in the first place?
Yes the story was excellent, but for it's time, the graphics were top-notch. Do we REALLY need it remade with current-gen graphics?
Not to mention the fight that will break out whether Sony or Microsoft get it on their systems, and if both get it, there'll still be people outraged.
I think it would be smarter for Square to let this one go. Leave Cloud and co intact with their dignity.

Dirge or Cerberus's story was great, just the gameplay lacked alot...

Maybe they don't like the idea of having to kneel down every time a fan wants a game remade. They might also realize if they remade FFVII that people would ***** for a remake for every other FF game and Square doesn't want to go down that road.
They've already got remakes of half the other FF games. <_<

Really the only reason one hasn't been made is because they intend to milk the fans for everything we've got. If they ever do release a remake of it it'll only be because they're bored and have run out of ideas for further spin-offs.

I've played the game. I know the story. I've replayed the game a few times. Never, not once during those replays did I play the game with superior graphics. The experience has almost always been the same as the first.

Oh, and, fuck's sake, who wants to see DON CORNEO scenes in high-quality?
