Why hasn't Square made an FF7 remake?

Maybe they don't like the idea of having to kneel down every time a fan wants a game remade. They might also realize if they remade FFVII that people would ***** for a remake for every other FF game and Square doesn't want to go down that road.
That is a very, very good point.

Because they did not do too well making the Final Fantasy franchise. FF6 (FF3 as it was called on the SNES) needs a re-make. An FF7 re-make would be fun to play, though FF6 hasn't even go with a spin-off. I think a re-make for FF6 would make more money than a re-make for FF7 would.
ff6 had a re-make sort of. part of the ff colelction on ps1. Few extras and cg cutscenes and everything. But yea i know what you actually mean and you are correct sir. 6 Deserves a remake the most. 7 has toys. shirts 80% of the fanbase and a ultra high budget movie. Fans deserve a re-rendered retakeing of the best episode in the series. yea i said it! A fresh look with fresh faces and voices. The way i see it 6 just has more room to improve and grow and show things we havent seen yet moreso then 7 could ever do. However it would never in anyway make as much money as a remake of 7. But i think if square remakes 7 then in alot of peoples eyes there will be nothing square could ever do to top it.

7 is iconic. there is no doubt about it. But for all the memorable moments and scenes and battles and music, there are alot of misses in it too. SOme terrible terrible music, spastic combat, and annying silly side quests stories. That and the fact that 7 came out in a very odd time. Sorta at the begining of the whole polygon thing..but a little too soon imo FF7 does not age well at all. At least with the 16bit classic style of 6 you know what your getting.

How many people here wouldn't buy a modern remake of Final Fantasy 7? How many people here have actually written or signed petitions to Square and Sony, or atleast wouldn't discard the idea should it arise, to remake, redesign or atleast re-release arguably the greatest videogame ever created? I personally don't even own a ps3 and only briefly owned a ps2, but I would buy a PS3 purely if a remake of FF7 were released for it. You'd think that it would be a common sense driven marketing advancement for Square, in light of how many people who clearly would support and purchase a remake, to atleast consider the idea. It would probably make them more money now than it did when it was first released for the original playstation more than a decade ago.

Thoughts?
Because if they did it, it would not because the think it would be a great idea to bring a new gen to the ff7, but on a sceme for pure profits.

Also this will cause ALOT of problesm, because not everyone thinks ff7 was the best of the ff series. So everyoe will be "why ff7 not 6 or 8 or 2 or 1 etc etc"

I think they should just leave it as is and let square go off and do new things and watch them shoot themselves in the foot XD

Maybe because it would NEVER live up to fanboys expectations.

People would want new content, then they would scream that the content breaks the original game.

Oh, also...remakes suck. Can't we try moving forward instead of constantly living in the past?
Yeah but that didn't stop them from making Dirge or the original advent children (the complete version actually rocks).
Dirge or Cerberus's story was great, just the gameplay lacked alot...
It was hard to get through story while trying to swim through bland game play. I got frustrated over not being able to jump over a rail. I don't really know why is the thing. At that point I put the game down and couldn't bring myself to play it anymore. I would've liked the story more without the gameplay. Too bad it didn't come out after MGS4, so it could have gone the playable movie route (MGS4 had great gameplay just not enough of it).

Square isn't remaking it because they have better things to do. You know, like making original games! They've already got quite the number of projects going, adding a VII remake would just make their workload larger, and people would be waiting for a while anyway. So either they are not working on it, or they are, and it's behind the scenes, untold to anyone, so as not to have us waiting on it every minute of every day until it is released.

They want to strive for something beyond money? Improve and perfect until they have the perfect Final Fantasy rather than remaking an old copy and selling it?

I'm glad that I am not alone, and I realized that I said that the FF franchise was not done too well I meant that the FF7 franchise was not doing too well. (Just a little edit) Many claim that the game has not aged well, and as this is too true, in all cases, I still find myself playing it, I just did about a month ago, and I was playing the SNES version of FF6 a little while ago as well, I really do not mind at all about the graphics when playing a JRPG, though I still wonder how much FF7 would "improve" if it were to get a graphical overhaul.

please.... no... Spend time on other games, until technology moves so far forward that it makes FF VII unbearable to play.
For me, FF VII was just average to me, compared to the glory of VI and IX. If FF VII was remade I would probably be one of the last to buy it, I'd wait for it to come down in price.

Because people who aren't viewing it through nostalgia goggles will have a very different opinion from everyone else. Same reason for Nintendo not remaking the N64 Zeldas.

If I was Sony I would fully fund the Final Fantasy 7 remake. That way it would be an exclusive to the PS3. Imagine the hype Sony and SE could generate. That would be a system seller for sure!

I agree with all the people that there shouldn't be a re-make to a certain extent, but seeing all of it's epic cutscenes and whatnot with great graphics would be amazing. And also, having voice overs instead of just writing would've been great. If they never re-make it, i reckon if they made a TV series of it made like advent children - 2 seasons. First season for disc 1, then second season for disc 2 and 3.
It's by far the best FF game because it was written so well, the characters are well thought out, and all of the painted backdrops were just incredible, especially the Mako Reactors
