Because as long as they tease the fans with the possibility of a remake, the fans will be forced to buy their other games to ensure the company doesn't fail before the remake is made. The moment thye remake this game, so many people's lives will be so complete that they'll never need to buy another Final Fantasy, or potentially any other game, ever again.

Because it's a bad idea?
I'm with you there, a old, old game like FFVII is only worthy now of being put on PSN as it was, unless Square Enix plans to milk the FFVII series as much as they can, oh wait they all ready have. I would only be prepared to play the game if they completely remade the battle system and everything.
In my opinion, it's my least favorite Final Fantasy, and I don't want to call it a bad game because I'll never hear the end of it from fan boys, but I do consider it to be very atrocious.

More to the point, Final Fantasy has a phenomenal fan-base, and while they have remade Final Fantasy games onto the PSX and DS, I don't think they can get away with a remake onto a console. I can see them putting it on the PSP or the DS and then continuing to milk the FF7 fan base for money through new FF7-related video games, movies, and anime, but a remake might be biting off more than SquareEnix can chew.
Yes, it's my least favourite FF too. And I can see what you mean by a remake going too far for Square Enix, but that said, this is coming from the people who made a presequel, sequal in movie form and then a sequal of the sequel of just one of their series, so who knows what they'll think up to milk the fanbase until they're dry.

There's no real need. I did want a remake but playing the original on my PSP on the train is working out fine.

With Final Fantasy XIII coming out soon people could just play that.

because all the intelligent people working at square have either retired or died of the plague, leaving only retarded squid to work on story, gameplay, and characterization, as well as marketing strategies.

Because currently they're in their "Fabula Nova Crystallis" universe and a "remake" of FF7 onto a next gen console equals making a completely new game.

Ok, they could leave the story and dialogues the same....but the transition from prerendered backgrounds to full 3D is a lot of work. And that's not the only area that is in need of some serious updates... the movies...the battles...the minigames...probably the whole materia-system.

They are milking the ff7 franchise dry - the remake wont come till all the fanboys get tired and stop buying everything labelled FF7.

Only then will they do the remake to revitalise the franchise and get people buying more shit!
