Cant tell if serious or just stupid.
This is the internet, not everyone is a sheep that follows everything because some guy said so. I didnt follow this because I knew it would achieve nothing. Not because i'm "evil" or "wrong". I always followed up my statements with evidence why it wouldnt work. Invisible Children act like the second word in their name "CHILDREN". They believe they can fix the world at the press of a button.
i dont have a problem with people who simply just choose not to support invisible children my problem lies in the people that made it their mission to destroy invisible children that i think was very un called for and the wrong thing to do
as ive said i dont actually support invisible children but i dont think its destruction accomplished anything and i dont think it was the right way to handle this, a much better way would have been to either A. ignore it until it goes away (this would have happened much quicker if people didnt hate on it) or B. interdependently put pressure on government officials to deal with kony and the mess that is uganda in general
from what i can see the outcome of this is no one in uganda gets any help at all, kony gets of scott free with some pretty horrific crimes, invisible children (which despite its imperfections and cock ups managed to achieve allot more than most people do) looses all popular support and no one wins except the few haters who see the disaster as some kind of victory and proceed to dance on invisible children's corpse and act like they won some sort of victory
What is so wrong with a little positive critsism. It helps them improve. If you didnt know, even the Ugandans effected by kony dont think that he should be chased after. They dont even see him as a threat anymore. They want the money put into helping rebuild the villages and people affected by kony rather than going on some wild goose chase around central Africa.
nothing is wrong with positive criticism (it is actually very helpful) but i think its fairly obvious that what invisible children was getting (for the most part) was very aggressively attacked from all sides which was very counter productive
its the difference between this conversation
person "hey invisible children i dont think your finances are in order because only 30% of the money you raise gets given away what gives with that?"
invisible children "im glad you asked this is not uncommon for our sort of charity as were more about raising awareness and getting the government involved than directly dealing with the problem however we see this is an area we can improve on and we will try to get more money to the ugandans that need it provided people are willing to donate"
and this conversation
person "omg invisible children only gives 30% of the money away they must be corrupt and evil i knew this was a scam everyone who gives any remote support to invisible children must be stupid FULL CAPS RAGE"
judging by what people have been posting at me the later has unfortunately been the most popular approach to the situation because apparently the internet is about as ready to discuss this maturely as it is to transform into a fire breathing dragon and personally kill kony
