Why have consumers forgotten about computer gaming?

Well, I seem to remember a report that included a statistic on an incredible gap between the sales of Video Games and Computer Games.
Guess which is outnumbering the other?
This isn't a rant against "Console 'Tards", but why do so few people go for the Computer games?
Personally, I think the determining factor is in the Children and Christmas. "Them kids want an X-station, right?"
Not "They want a computer game, right?". Maybe Computer gaming is for a more mature crowd, or that video games sell both consoles AND games, the latter of the 2 at an outrageously large price, whereas computers sell games from different companies to the hardware developers, and the 2 rarely go hand in hand.
What do you think?

Here's why I don't buy any new computer games anymore: My PC is from 2006 with a video card that does not support SM3.

There are a few reasons why, but the main one is that laptops aren't good gaming platforms, considering computer games are designed for desktops, and a lot of people only have laptops or work computers, not ones that are designed to play the latest games. That's the situation in my house. The desktop computer is my Dad's computer. I have my own laptop. He plays the computer, I play my Xbox 360 (although, since my current laptop has a great graphics card, I sometimes nick his games anyway =P).

If you're a kid in a household, chances are someone else gets to use the computer, and they don't want you to play video games on it. A console, by contrast, can be yours, because parents don't want it. ^ ^

This, essentially. Although my PC is from 2004 and is currently limping along.

I find that being able to sit on a couch to play videogames is much more comfortable, too.

Although I must admit I still revisit my old PC games more than occasionally.

My computer is starting to show it's age. I can really play all the new fun games that come out. My Xbox can, so that's why I just get games for that

Because it is way too fucking expensive to update your computer for new games. In the long run, if you buy the same amount of games for the 360 and the PC, and you have to pay for the 360 but not the PC, than the PC gaming will still cost a lot more because of needing to upgrade your PC.

Console gaming has a lot less headaches and is more pick up and play.

The pool of gamers has increased and many of them were picked up through console gaming. It's just a lot easier to use.

I have a ps3 and a pc. the pc cost me 1500 euro and already there are games out that i wouldnt be able to run at full spec. On the other hand my playstation was 600 euro(now 300) and will still run all games(this applies to xbox as well).
Therefore i think the main reason parents or anyone would buy a console is because it is at least half the price of a comparable pc.

Buying a console means you don't have to upgrade until the next-gen comes out. So all you have to worry about is buying games and enjoying them. If you had a PC then you have to worry about what settings you can run the game at, will I get a good frame-rate at these settings, do I have the room to install this game on my HDD?

It's just a hassle. PCs require maintenance and upgrading, consoles don't. People are dumb and want easy mode.

Plus, most genres are more fun to play with a controller than a keyboard.

I am a PC gamer so i am bias. Let me get that fact out of the way right now.

1)Most people dont think that a computer is for work and social networking only.

2) People buy console because they are cheaper but dont realize with programs like x box live they milk you for every cent that you are worth and still end up getting 800 bucks out of you over a console lifetime. (think about it 300 initially than 10 bucks a month for 5 years is actually 900 bucks WITHOUT GAMES)

3) people dont realize that with a gaming quality PC most people would not have the trouble that they have with PC.

4) Labtops really screw the pooch and most people own them. the need to be portable (which i dont have) is more important than the need to be powerful. Yet again I attribute this to the absolute ignorance that most people have for computers.

5) this is to anyone that says console gaming is more confortable to do. If you dont have a good chair to sit at your PC or Mac with than i am sorry for you. Get a nice office chair for 100 bucks. its still cheaper than buying a couch.

If you spend 900 dollars on a PC it will last you the console generation, but you will be able to store as mush data as you want and everything will run smoother. or you could be dumb and buy a 2000 dollar mac that can do the same thing (except without the gaming aspect of course).

I actually would argue that you save money in the long run by geting a gaming PC rather than a console. Games are cheaper, Online is free, Free content (mods), you can do all of your work on then (no need to buy a console for games and a computer for work) and you can use for browse your favorite gaming form knowing that you a PC game so therefor better than everyone else (I kid I kid).

It's a lot harder to pirate an XBox game compared to a PC game. So PC game sales are likely much lower due to rampant piracy. It's actually causing developers to avoid the PC as a platform and forcing existing developers out of the market because they don't get a good return on investment. That's my opinion anyway.

PC gaming is much more expensive, much more complicated, has many, many more hardware-related problems, and generally has a smaller online community (though the online communities are a bit more dedicated than their console counterparts).
