Why havent they made a new mario game

Mario should be laid to rest. Aside from, maybe, compatibility ports.

The story has been drained dry several times. The gameplay has progressed minimally. And let's face it, 20 years is more than should be given to any character as flat as Mario.

Though NSMBW did lack a few graces from the World series that would have been nice. Such as a final boss.

OT: New Super Mario Bros (DS) was excellent but I think Nintendo should move into other, better franchises now (more Zelda? Star Fox?)

They were the better ones in my opinion...
It seems lately that they are just making Mario Brothers and Mario 64 over and over again...
