I'm not buying it because I played the first one, felt nothing for it, didn't bother buying the second one and simply don't care about the series.

I like my reason better. It's short, sweet, and to the point.

Oh, how I love these "Why I'm not going to by " threads, thinking you are making such a mighty statement by announcing that you will not buy a video game. Surely this will be remembered as the day that marked the beginning of the end of . Vive la revolution!

Actually they already said what the DLC level is about, a history lesson - unearthing lost secrets of the past. Also its set on Eden Prime. That for me is boring and not connected to the main plot.

Have money out the wazoo I don't care how much money they force out of me I am buying Mass Effect 3. The whole 'pay extra' argument doesn't effect me. I am willing to pay more for content thats only £10.

I think there is/should be some forum etiquette that if you post a 25min video and want to discuss the points of the video, you should at least allude to what the video is about. Granted the video gets into it quickly, but still.

comment comment:
I can see how this would bother people. Protheans in general are a big deal, so the chances of this character having some important part of the overall experience is at least higher than if it was a 'normal' character. That's fine. I get that. It doesn't mean it will, but it some decent chances.

However, I take issue with the fact the guy in the video assumes that since it will exist at launch that it means it was 'cut' from the rest of the game. Could it be? Yeah it could be, but it could also be an entirely separate piece from the get go. If a publisher gives the devs X amount of money to work on the main game and Y amount of money to work on DLC projects for the game at the same time, we are not entitled(for lack of better word) to get everything developed under the X+Y budget. The fact is we do not know how or when money was allocated for the development.

I'm not saying I like the idea of Day 1 DLC. The fact that the DLC character is a Prothean either means it is a deal of noteworthy size or a very poor implementation of what should be a big deal. At best it's a bit of cheap move and at worst it is a ripoff, but it really hurts the argument (to me) to say that just by existing on launch day, it means we should get it.
Here's the problem. If you're a Mass Effect fan, like me, a Prothean is a huge deal. Granted, if you're someone new to the series, or if you're not really a fan, you'll probably just shrug and not worry about it. However, this DLC is going to be considered a must have by ME fans, and BioWare and EA knows this. It's nothing short of an attempt to exploit loyal customers. Such practices are, in my opinion, shameful and immoral, and that's the reason why I object. It's not the content I object to, its the intent behind it.
Im going to ask you this question, Why is the Prothean a huge deal for you?

If you read the leaks you should be able to anwser this with no problem, if you havent then I want to know what relevance he makes to you, Im not trying to put down your opinion or anything I just want to get the idea from someone that hasnt read the spoilers.

Protheans were a big deal from ME1 and onward. If one is gonna show up, he belongs in the series' closing act.

This is sleazy.

Games are art? Businesses like EA sure don't seem to give a shit about the artistic side of things.

I had already decided not to buy ME3. It wasn't an easy decision. This confirms that it was the correct one (for me).
how can they BELONG ion the games closing act when 2 games ago it was given knowledge that they were extinct?

No shit. I don't mind that, but this move is effectively holding content to ransom.

Why are we assuming the Protean is going to be a huge importance to the game?
Because he's a Prothean, plain and simple. Without the Protheans we'd effectively have no Mass Effect games.
I would like to address your points.

1.- we wont know if they are holding content for ransom until the game is releases, Zaeed was not a plot centric character even though he was integral to the Blue Suns, who are major antagonists in ME2

2.- That is a poor logical conclusion to reach, just because Shepard is human it doesnt make every other human as important.
1) Zaeed was free with any new copy of the game.

2) If Shepard was the last human alive in the galaxy s/he'd be important by default. If Shepard was the last member alive of a species that basically enabled the events of this entire game series? Moreso.
1.- If you didnt get the cerberus network you had to pay for it.

2.- Would you say the same if it was joker instead of sheppard? or Jacob? or Miranda? or Doctor Chakwas, or kelly? or Random Soldier guy 2354123?

Found this on another thread - dont know how to embed it. Protheans sound fucking stupid, like space Jamaicans or something. Guess he will put on some Bob Marley and smoke some Ganja.

Now no longer interested in downloading it because it will ruin that race for ever.

This. I respect not one of these bullshit whiny boycotts because of this, and man is it ever tiring nowadays. Every time SOMETHING happens, it's just negativity all around. The "pirating it," thing, and the "I'll get it used instead so no one, not even the devs, get my money" utterly gall me. Nice one, bro, way to make sure the right people get fucked. Way to show you're not gonna take it and will not stand for any bullshit by...buying the game.

If you're taking a stand, mean it. Inconvenience yourself all the way or you might as well give them your money now, since you will later anyway cause you simply could not go without blue bitchin' sex in space to stand by your beliefs. As far as I'm concerned, you either send the message home, or be a pussy. Your call.

Btw, I cancelled my preorder cause I'm broke, but life's too short to get all Che Guevara over DLC for a bleepety-bloopy vidya gaem. Call me when they start withholding the actual ending behind some (paid) DLC. Now THAT is serious. This is unknown. Not one of you know anything about this character outside his race.

Well, have fun playing something other than Mass Effect 3!

I don't give a crap, because I have the collector edition pre-ordered, and I don't usually buy DLC anyway. I see a problem, and I understand, but I'm not going to let that spoil the game for me.

Been blown enormously out of proportion, I reckon.

If you go to buy a car, you'll have a list of extra stuff you can order for quite a lot of money, sometimes ridiculously overpriced depending on the manufacturer. Same with computers, yachts, almost anything. They have the right to market and distribute their product or parts thereof however they wish and it's up to us to decide whether we're willing to shell out or not.

The fellow in the video used the word 'entitled' a few times. He's entitled to nothing but the choice, which he exercised, and that's the end of the matter as far as he and EA are concerned.

This kind of thing just goes too far and is the king of money grabbing nonsense I just can't stand. All I ask is that you watch the video and consider the implications.

Edit: The video in short explains that bioware and ea are forcing you to pay for a game changing character those of you who who have played mass effect will realise the significance of this kind of Team-mate.
It is a Prothean
The content is only avalible for those who are willing to fork out for the collectors edition or pay extra for day of release DLC
....

I agree with you, the My mom wont buy me a new Ipad, I AM THE 99%, individuals that crow and bark aloud how unfair it is that the game that they purchased doesnt satisfy them, is the worst crime ever.

If they actually did take a stance instead of continuously posting, OMG X company sucks I will only buy this last game from them and thats it, they might actually accomplish something.

I don't understand why you guys immediately ruled out the fact that other Protheans might make an appearance in the game. They don't have to be squadmates to be part of (or central to) the story.

We don't really know anything about the story. A Prothean could take the Illusive Man's role in the third game for all we know. Unless it was stated that the Prothean in the DLC was the last of its kind. Then yeah, this suuucks.

Maybe there was a single Prothean in hiding but keeping an eye on thing through the entire series without nary a word to the one man/woman who's actively trying to stop the Reapers from repeating their cycle of destruction.

Then when the time of the third game rolls around he thinks to himself "Damn....there's some serious shit going down. Guess I'd better get out there so..."

Yeah, this kinda sucks, if you are getting the collectors edition you are probably pretty happy though. I'm not for this decision but I'm not going to limit myself from playing the game, I really hope this wasn't Bioware's idea and this was a call made by EA. Either way this is a really great looking game and it has some bad business attached to it but I still really want to play it and will put up with a little bullshit in order to have a great experience.
