As others have said, there is zero point trying to unclog windows. It's much faster to reinstall.

*sigh* another one...

A PC is NOT an operating system.

If you cant get terminology right what hope is there?

First off vista alone is like ten gigs the reason windows doesnt completely delete something is so it can be restored and the fact that you ran around deleting random stuff off your pc you probably deleted something important.

Your computer if old probably cant run vita thats why your having problems

Format is the only answer to your problem. Not to mention its a good idea to do it anyway before you sell it.

Vista on an old Sempron? Why? And why go through all the trouble of cleaning an old drive manually for a measly 60 bucks? You'd be better off formatting the drive and installing XP.
My friend wants it to still have Vista... If anything i'd rather put XP on there as it is faster and won't kill the Sempron.

Then your knowledge seems insufficient. Check the registry for references to the directory in question. Remove them all (assuming this is not a system critical directory), and reboot.
Realized that some of the files were part of another piece of software, hence why they wouldn't be removed with the initial uninstallation.

It has nothing to do with being admin. Microsoft long ago made the design choice that a binary file that has been loaded into memory cannot be modified on the disk, for security and stability reasons. So as long as that program is loaded into your RAM, you can't delete it. Check your active processes, close the ones related to the program in question, and then try again.
Removed the automatic processes and successfully uninstalled the contents of the file.

Looks like some of those "random files" were part of your antivirus program. Way to go.
Gratz on realizing something i really didn't know.
Funnily enough the anti-virus software that was previously installed was a crack he had used so he didn't have to pay for it.
S'all gone now and i've put Avast on there... Great program.

"It doesn't want to go"? Is that the technical term?
No it isn't. I'm very sorry for personifying a program...
If you are referring to the antivirus program, then yeah, they can be hell to get rid of. Part of their design, and part of why it's usually a bad idea to use them. If your AV is acting up, you're usually better of just formatting and reinstalling from scratch.
I'm trying to avoid doing that as i don't have have a copy of Vista to whack back on there...

Well, since you don't seem to be very good with PC's, Macs might be better for you. If you prefer them, use them.
I chose a mac because of Logic Pro... I still use my PC to game.
I generally am quite good with Windows but Vista has seemed to be quite challenging.

Luckily i have this PC sorted, just a few more programs to make sure i'm not missing anything important.
DBM stacks and a few others :)

I am liking the amount of people slating Macs though.

So...You don't really know a lot about PCs, you don't even seem to know what's holding the other 55 Gbs of space in your harddrive, using the worst Windows out right now, so you started deleting random crap and now things aren't working.

...Yep, PCs are shit like that.
Maybe i should have specified what random shit i was deleting.

Music Files, Video Files, Ex-Program files etc.
Not System 32 files -.-
