I personally have no interest in WoW, but listen anyways, people are going to criticize games, no matter how much others like them, if you like it then take solace in that fact and ignore the people that trash on it.
OT: I've played uit, got to lv 70 and then I said "So is this supposed to be fun now? It was better just grinding levels than the actual play in lv 70!" So I'll stay away from it
I have been a wow player for a little over a year now and i have no plans to quit playing any time soon. People often say that the combat in wow is boring and takes no skill, well its an mmorpg and a damn fine one to, and i can't think of any mmo where grinding is fun. Being good at wow is not just following a rotation. The skill in wow is the concentration and cooperation to be able to work with your raid or arena partner(s) to out think your opponent whether it be non player or player "by knowing what the fuck to do". The reason why people play wow for years is not because of some addiction i hear all the time it is because the game is fun!
Downing a boss you have been struggling on for weeks or raising to the top of the arena charts with some of your best friends whether they be online or irl is one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I have ever had. a lot of wow criticism is that because of the fact the game is not fun unless you are max level but just because you are too impatient to level up does not mean that wow is a bad game! And i am yet to play a game that has been so entertaining that i could play nonstop for over 20 hours.
Not liking mmo's is no reason to single out wow as being a poorly made game that takes no skill.
Reason why i feel so strongly about wow criticism is the fact that it is a part of my life and i have been surrounded by bigots that play the trail for 5 minutes and say to me "wow is for fags its just right clicking!"
Lok tar ogar for the horde! (i play alliance to be honest but only because of friends)
Edit: People having there own opinion of wow is fine but it is the people with no experience with the game or the genre that needlessly insult it and the players.
So you're saying pretty much a person doesn't have the right to criticize unless they've played it for a while.
Well I started played WoW back when it came out, from 2004 to 2008ish on and off but a good 2 year period of time straight. So WoW has been a bigger part of me than you so I think I at least qualify to criticize it.
Yes, the game was fun for a period, but I also see it as being very very addicting and now I don't like the fact I wasted all that time playing that stupid game. After the first year I ended up playing that game just for the sake of playing it being totally bored out of my mind and not realizing it out of addiction.
Sorta like my smoking habit right now, I hate smoking I say it everyday...but I still end up going and buying another pack out of habit....lol
Anyways for me it was a learning experience...lol
And what did I learn, MMOs suck...A real gamer wouldn't bother wasting time with that crap and play Dragon Age instead....;P
Everything should be criticised. Saying something should be criticised suggests you are insecure about it, or that you think said target for criticism is perfect.
Hint: Nothing is perfect. At all. Ever.
How can you improve something if no-one says what is wrong with it?
I played it for 6 months, then gave up. Yeah, I can see how it can be fun, and I do understand the attraction of playing in a group. Hell, the first time I tanked an instance and no-one else took a single hit is still part of my top 5 gaming moments.
On the other paw, I felt that because the sub ran on IRL time instead of gametime, if I wasn't playing then I was wasting money. Also, it got to the point where I walked from the south-eastern tip of the eastern continent to the north-western because there was nothing to do. That was when I started to wonder if I was actually playing a game anymore. My subs ran out 3 days later and I didn't renew them.
WoW was great when I left it, but that was quiiiiiite a while ago... Having played for 3 and a half odd years, and after the guild I was in disbanding, I just gave up.
Who cares, people are allowed to hate on games. I think Halo sucks and I haven't even played it (bandwagoning at it's finest. well actually, I lie, I have played some Halo multi-player).
Anyways, WoW is addictive. More as a genre than anything else. You're always wanting to better your character, get the next upgrade so you can pump out a few extra dps. If you want to raid seriously you basically have no choice but to schedule your life around the game. It's certainly addictive, there's no question about it.
Not liking MMORPGs is fucking stupid, it's like not liking JRPGs (and we've all seen how much JRPG fans love that...).
Hell, the ammount of people bleating on about how no game will be fun, or even a game, because it has MMO elements makes me sad to be a gamer. At least other groups of idiots realise that they're idiots...
