I'm a 23-year-old male, and I'm excited to grow old.

I used to be afraid of getting old, especially visiting my grandparents who seemed to have nothing to do. When my grandfather died and grandmother moved into a rest home, she was miserable about the idea. She seemed to warm up to it, but I thought
"Man, it's going to be hard when I'm old moving away from my house where all my things-that-make-old-people-happy are."
It's hard to put that thought into words, but y'know what I mean.

Then one day as I was walking down the hall I passed a room, and heard the similar language of Sims emanating from the room. I peered in, and found an old man playing The Sims 3 on what appeared to be a quite bitchin' gaming computer. He invited me in, and I watched him play. He said his grandson gave him his old computer and he was enjoying playing games. I told him about Team Fortress 2 and he said he'd ask his grandson about it.
A week later, sure enough.

Then it hit me.

Old folks homes in 50 years will come standard with high-speed internet and LAN because that's what retirees will want to be doing.

It was a massive revelation. I'm eating and exercising better, and am doing my damnedest to be financially successful throughout my adult life, because when I retire I'm going to play online games all day, every day and be expected to do so.
I love LAN parties, so imagine doing that every day, and even get a fuckin' bedpan put in so I don't ever have to get up, or even replace it myself.
Nurse bringing me my meals, and my family won't even feel guilty about not visiting or like it's a chore, because grandpa's got Battlefield 25 to keep him happy.

Don't be depressed about getting old, gamers. We have SO MUCH to look forward to.

Okay , so from what i gathered . An old man invited you, a pure stranger who was peeking into his house through a window, inside his home? Not creepy at all!

OT; yeah me and my friend came to the same conclusion, golden age gamers we shall be! But we will keep our old consoles and brag to the youngins about the yesteryears of video games , and they shall look at us and sigh.

Hallway at the resthome. The rooms are like hotel rooms, most have the doors open so the nurses can glance in to check on them as they go by.

Pretty sure he was walking down the hall in an old folks home, heard it from the hall, and went to investigate. Then the old guy invited him in the room.

Pretty sure everyone's going to forget about the internet when they get old and senile.

It still depends on there being games worth buying being out at the time. Either that or a still working old console, or some serious emulation technology.

Also have you tried playing a PC FPS with Arthritis?

That's a nice thought but I imagine old people in fifty years will most likely be converted into fuel and all the rich elderly people will either be living inside a video game or on their death-beds suffering from some crazy form of the Bubonic plague and the fact that they're over 2000 pounds does not alleviate any of the symptoms. I've never thought of it that way.

Holy shit, you've got a point. We'll be the most awesome generation of old people ever. Sure, the arthritis will suck, but we'll have our games. Plus, think about what we'll reminisce about: Pokemon, D&D, video games, and the internet. Our retirement will be bitchin'.

I am sorry, but this is not sufficient reason for me to look past all the negative side effects of being old. Perhaps I need to turn in my nerd card for not being nerdy enough.

One thing I enjoy about being (relatively still @ 36) young and playing video games is that I can (occasionally) get up and enjoy doing a variety of other things...

PS. Oh shi- "Sansha" I just realized you play the same MMO I do ;p
I perhaps understand your perspective a little bit better, lol.
... EVE Online? Nah I gave up on that months ago.

Care to buy my character?

I am scared to get old the way I view life is I got all this stuff I want to do so at least I get the most out of my limited time. It is like doing a mission of a game when you have a time limit to finish and your always in a panic to go as fast as possible I hate it but death scares me :S

I never thought of this. :O
This is great news to know that even in my death bed I'll shall still be owning people on multiplayer games. Tears of pride, tears of pride.

However, in the mean time around the world I shall venture. Plus, there a bunch of cool stuff to do before I go to my retirement.

That one way to be optimistic about growing old however due to the recession or something like that (I can't remember the exact discussion from my aunt), the age to retire had increase meaning it will be longer for us to reach the retirement age.
Beside when you reach the age you could be unfit to play gaming at all as in your hands will ache alot more due to old age and the years of playing games beforehand. Well it depends how well you had taken care of your hands.

I always feel oppressed by the generation older than me. Though I fear that by the time I feel like I'm on top, I'll feel that same pressure from generations beneath me.

You know I came into the this thread prepared to raise fire and to knock you all down into exactly how crappy being old is. (except being able to do ANYTHING because I'm CrAzY old grandpa)

But high speed internet sounds good, though our reaction time may suffer by then so no Battlefield 10: Anniversary Edition.
