So I hear alot about how Casual gamers are the scum of the earth or that Casual Gamers are all evil. Why?
Why this Antagonism to people who just play games for fun and never really get into it much more than that.
EDIT: I am not a casual I can tell that much from my choice of games, I just want to know about why we have beef with "casuals", To be honest I think we should just take this "Hardcore" and "Casual" bullshit away, It adds or contributes nothing to gaming as a whole and is only there so elitists can be assholes.

Casual isn't bad, its the people like Zygna that make it a heinous, heartless money grab.
Casual gamers feed these people, earning the loathing of people who want the loving developers to be the ones to make millions.

It's not "bad" but it does somewhat hurt the more mainstream audience by having developers making more of these casual games to flood the market. An influx of games no one was buying almost killed the gaming industry once.

My only issue is that developers seem to think that the Facebook audience is stealing the Mass Effect/Half-Life/Assassin's Creed/all-the-other-stuff-we-play audience, and that their customers are leaving those games to play Farmville.

Who are the loving developers who deserve to make millions?

Because people like to have nice things all to themselves. When other people begin to enjoy it they whine and complain that it is "ruined", because they do not feel like part of a special club anymore. It is no longer a special club because anyone can join, so they feel begin to feel animosity towards those who are making it more "mainstream" and therefor making them feel less special. /armchairpsychology

The simplification of complex gaming systems is a problem that sometimes is attributed to pandering to a casual audience.

Casual isn't bad, unless you make it exclusive.

I'm plaing the easiest difficulty on Bioshock currently because I can mess around with things I couldn't on the hardest difficulty.
I can create a 'wrench' build, for example, who is pretty much immune to all damage and can kill most enemies in one hit the wrench.

It's not casual gamers, it's developers who release casual games and abandon the core gamer market, people who want to do a bit more in their games than solve Warioware puzzles.

It's also the fact that developers charge just as much for casual games, as they do for core games, despite the production values being so much lower.

Casual games should be an optional substitute, not a replacement to real games. They should also be made cheaper to reflect their production values.

Casual as opposed to what?

I think I'm pretty casual in my gaming.
Casual gaming tends to refer to uninvolved games that don't have much story or depth of gameplay, like Farmville and Peggle.

Maybe it is like the "I liked them before x". It is just something to have a "1-up" on other people. I find casual and hardcore games fun.

That's not what is meant by casual. Casual meaning more like Peggle, Bejeweled, and Farmville. Games that are played by millions of people casually and cost like $5.

There's nothing wrong with casual games or casual gamers per se.Some of the most fun I've had in the last few years has been playing the likes of Wii Sports with my buddies

The problem is that as soon as something becomes popular it attracts a rash of imitators. For every good casual game there's probably a dozen cheap, crappy knockoffs.the people these games are aimed at often aren't very clued in and so will buy the crap meaning more crap will continue to be made because it keeps selling

It's only bad because I have to watch my parents buy expensive shovelware like "train your pony" and "shrek 3 the game", or wasting even more money on things like Club Penguin for my brother.

It's frustrating that I could be putting the same money to good use on games like Zelda or New Vegas, and even more frustrating when I hear them all saying "all games suck" just because they're only playing shitty ones.

Other than that casual games are fine, it's just the massive amount of shovelware in the casual market and the ignorance of a lot of casual gamers.

Ow...alright i take my previous post back.

OT: To answer your question, I don't hate the people, I hate the games.
I won't stop them from playing it, even though I'll probably go ''NOOOOOOOOOOO'' at some point in a conversation with them.

Edit: ALSO 5000 POSTS!
On the Record! WHOOOOOHOOOOO!

Because by some twisted logic they dictate that people playing casual games aren't ACTUALLY having fun.
Because companies like Zynga are just money grubbing corporate whores meanwhile 'real' game developers are fan loving charity businesses.
Because many people think casual games instantly means shovelware games.
Because some people will attack anyone participating in the same hobby as them if they aren't doing it the 'right' way.

Those are exaggerations of some of the more silly points of view I've seen on it. I dunno, it seems silly to me, especially since the actual line of what makes a game 'casual' is fickle at best.
For all our otherwise wondering why the public doesn't seem to accept our hobby we are sure quick to instantly berate people who don't want to pick up a game of intense difficulty or complexity.

As a core gamer, I have no problems with casual gamers. More people who play games? Fine. More sales equals more studios making more games. My beef happens when companies whose games are usually strong pieces in a franchise begin neglecting their first-party work to appease a previously unnecessary market. And even then, the studios are catering to the casual audience and completely forget about the core gamers who made the industry grow in the first place.

Plus, Zynga is saturating the freeware Facebook market with games that just suck peoples' money away and contribute nothing of value to gaming at large.

Can we all agree that Zynga is bad for gaming?

We don't think they're evil. We just find it annoying that the industry is being effected by people who don't care about it.
