Why is EPIC the only descriptor that people use nowadays?

It seems like "epic" is just going the way of "awesome." I don't think anyone under 30 uses "awesome" only to describe breath-taking, awe-inspiring wonderment.
I do and I dont use epic

Epic, Awesome, Rad. Same meaning, different times. It'll blow over and get replaced by another word in time. Get used to it, or prepare to be frustrated the rest of your internet life :p

Yes, and it's a good thing too.

It stops them from making Chuck Norris cracks. *shudders*

I cannot stand people that say "Oh, Epic Win, right? Uhuhuhuhuh" to try to be funny. It's not funny. It's using something out of context, and you have never said it before. You only say it because you have heard other people say it, and found it funny. Acting like other people does not automatically make you a great comedian, it just makes you irritating.

A minor rant, but a good rant in my opinion.
Quite true, actually. Its not often I agree with your points, JJ, but this is certainly something I concur with. People copying other people does not necessarily make it equally hilarious (if anything, the opposite occurs) when they say it. It is a shame that the people copying others are trying to hard to step back and notice this to begin with.

It's a WoW term turned meme that leaked over to the 4chan forums.
Hrrrm...mini epic rant.

It was EVERQUEST, not WoW that propagated most of the raid terminology.

dps, Epic, Pet-rape, DPS and others were born there, they just grew up in WoW.

People use Epic as "a secret handshake for nerds", as ReepNeep said. I heard somebody say "Epic Fail" the other day and I knew at once that he was a fellow nerd.
And here I dispute; I have heard the 'epic' usage from a friend of mine who is as un-nerdly as one can get and still know the basic premise of a videogame.

Personally, I reserve the use of epic for when is deserving.

I use Epic, it's just an internet thing. The only thing I hate is people pronouncing "Pwned" and "Powned" or "Pawned". It's owned, people... no "Puh"-P sound.

Little kids saying it is just ... eh. The word is pretty much tarnished :(

I used epic win when my little ponies beat the crap out the little transformer toys of my colleague.

I like the transformer vs my little pony wars.

It's epic ;)

By the way, isn't any word that is over used annoying? Epic isn't the only meme that got annoying as soon the 'masses' got their hands on it. But on the other hand, sometimes memes are fun. I remember one time when a man was instructing a whole bunch of people, and at some point he yelled 'SILENCE'! and everybody yelled back 'I'll kill you!'. Wasn't set up beforehand, but it just triggered everyone's memes.

My personal favorite is cliche. Because right now, almost every game is trying to be epic. We don't have simple game plots anymore, like GTAVC, where all you wanted to do was make a crapload of money. Now everything has to involve the fate of the universe/Galaxy/country/World/Dimension/Planet/System. It's gotten to the point where a kid playing with action figures would have a more creative story.

This year's theme for the summer program I go to is "Epic." Which means that it's expanded far beyond the internet... EVERYONE in the program uses it. For EVERYTHING.
Must...
stab...
something...

I usually don't mind memes. I love them. All your base. I pwn. Etc. But... Epic? It's getting quite old. Enrich your vocabulary- read something more than game manuals.

I was once party to a discussion in which someone attempted to replace epic with biblical. It worked quite well, too, until people started complaining about blaspheming.

So that'd be why we use epic instead of biblical.
