Honestly, why...? Sure, beautiful game, that's good. Customization's pretty diverse. Art design is very eastern, like we need another MMO like that.

This was my exact reaction:
What's so unique about it? The combat...? What about the combat? ...You don't need to lock-on to an enemy to use abilities or damage them? You have to actively play...? ...ARE YOU THIS FUCKING DENSE?!

No, I'm sorry. I literally had a nerd rage over this. This isn't new people, this isn't ground breaking. I can name three games that have done this in the past, Chronicles of Spellborn, which was far ahead of it's time, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and Dragon Soul. Two of those are still running strong, and both of them are fucking free-to-play.

No, fuck you Tera. You're not special. You're just trying to horde money. This isn't new. This isn't original. This isn't special. All this is, is an Eastern MMO that might aswell just be Free-To-Play but because it's Pay-To-Play, people automatically are going "IT HAS TO BE AMAZING." No. Fuck this. This is why I'm supporting Arenanet, because they're not trying to rob us of our money.

Edit:
I just remember Vindictus has similar gameplay in instances, as well.

For those that need some visuals:

I thought people were talking up the politics system. It sounds neat. Also, I hate the idea that every MMO has to use some kind of lock-on system. Can anyone else say "stagnation"?

If that's a new thing, it's the least boasted. I've seen political systems in other games, too though. And my point here isn't so much "I WANT MORE LOCK-ONS." I just want people to stop praising it for this "original" idea. It's really nothing special...I'd hate to look like a fanboy, but Guild Wars 2 in comparison is more risk-taking, leaping steps ahead in the evolution process.

Personally, I am disinterested when it comes to TERA Online.

The art style looks relatively enchanting (as to be expected from Eastern MMOs), but the fact that the Elin remind me of loli's fills me with an inherent sense of unease. Particularly because my friend's Elin is very scantily-clad.

I don't really approve of Korean grindfests, and I've been told that that's essentially what TERA plays like. Which is fine if your focus is on PVP, but I'm a PVE carebear and I prefer to pot about doing my own thing and exploring the story.

I watched a video of a TERA Online raid, and I wasn't exactly blown away. Maybe they didn't choose the best encounter (it seemed to just be a tank and spank) but I found it rather dull and boring.

My impressions and thoughts to a tee. I do enjoy PVP, I like being compedetive when I'm confident for my build, but aside from that I am primarily a PVE guy, and Guild Wars 2 looks like a far better option than TERA. Not to mention the flat leveling curve...

MMOs with good gameplay are apparently rare nowadays.
The only MMO I'll be playing soon'll be Guild Wars 2, if I do ever get around to it.

Is there a point to this thread beyond the STOP LIKE WHAT I DONT LIKE mentality OP?

I will admit that its not the most original thing in the world, but most people ive talked about, only like Tera for all
.

My mentality isn't a "stop liking what I don't like" It's "Stop praising something that doesn't deserve praise." It's really just like every other Eastern MMO I've seen. Generic as can be with a new "unique" system of some sort.

Well it's a new MMO release, everyone drools over it for a while and two months after they shut down most servers.
This one may stick around for a while longer since it tickles any sort of perv you might be, anime, pedo, furry,...

Agreed with the sex appeal...How ever, no matter how much I would like to say I have no interest, the chubby furry guys are pretty cute and lovable. I can't deny that. But everything else, not worth it.

Wow. Congratulations, I actually had to make an account because I don't think I'd have been able to live with myself if I didn't answer the massive amount of wrong radiating off of you.

As someone who's played DDO tons, and has started playing Tera since the OB, the combat is FAR better in Tera then DDO. DDO's action combat was brilliant but poorly refined - Tera managed to implement the same idea far more effectively. DDO is also massively instanced, while tera is mostly persistant (except for dungeons).

You have to compare the scale of what Tera is trying to accomplish too - it's large, persistant, explorable world and long chain of plot quests is more reminiscent of WoW then anything. There is a hell of a lot more things implemented in Tera than in most freemium MMOs. Spellborn failed, DDO has serious flaws (like a severe lack of soloable content) and Dragonsoul is heavily pay-to-win freemium. None of these games can compete with the scale of Tera. With regards the action combat thing, they didn't invent it, but they sure as hell do it better then the games you listed.

Also, I love how you say it's an "eastern game" like that makes it unclean or something. South Korea is a very big part of the online gaming world, and their presence in the industry is only expanding. Being from a different country or a different race doesn't make you bad at making games. Get over it already.

Oh, and about it being a grindfest, I've never been bored with any of the stuff I had to do. I've been playing the whole game through quests and instances, and it's still entertaining. There are "kill X of this monster" quests, but even these I've enjoyed. I love the quests like "Defend this person from enemies attacking across the bridge for 8 minute", or "Escort this person from point A to point B (The area is packed with monsters) within the time limit. Also, fighting BAMs (Big ass monsters, this is actually an official term used by En Masse) with friends is amazing.

Yeah, it's pretty messed up - there's a huge "why don't you have a seat over there" factor with this game.

The Castanic have the most inconvenient head adornments ever, and the High Elves have really just one gender with the option of boobs or no boobs.

Nice of them to join the increasing number of MMORPGs that are adopting more engaging combat mechanics than the point and click formula, but quest grinding still remains boring as fuck.

Ragnarok Online also had combat where you couldn't lock on to anything. Came out in 2002.
Still my favorite MMO.

For what it's worth though, I liked Tera a lot. It feels good; even if the questing is uninspired.

However, I just can't justify the price tag at this point. I was also kind of disappointed how easy it is to level. Come on, Korea, I thought you were all about the huge slogs of grinding. Remember ROSE Online? It took 1.5 years for someone to finally hit level cap. I could see myself hitting 60 in Tera in about 3 weeks.

Question: why the loli characters have such fat legs? i dont understand much of drawing nor much of anatomy at all but i feel that that kind of leg belong to an adult female....but the females have thin legs, so i am quite confused it this is artistic licence or they are trying to pass the lolis as small adults so they dont get called as pedos.
