People can find a reason to be angry about anything and feel they need to tell you so. If they get annoying Mute them. End of story. And if they get worse, report them. It's what it's there for
And this is a prime example of what not to do...
OT: Because it's Xbox Live, where people think they can get away with being hidden over the internet.
No, fighting back is a prime example of what not to do, it just makes them feel they have control over you. Let them waste their breath while you can't hear their annoying voices full of profanity. And XBL has a report function that if it is REALLY THAT BAD they can be punished. Letting it slide doesn't stop the problem.

People are douches because one one major reason, we are all douches. The better people hold off those urges to be a complete dick and others cant stop being that for more than 2 minutes. Also on a keyboard is much more safe and less chance of I dont know, physical violence heading their way if they do so, so they do. They feel more power and less consequences so they shall do it. Overall why are people dicks? Because they can.

This is strange, I've been finding the MW2 community to be much more co-operative as teams, and a lot friendlier.

I think removing party chat had something to do with this.

The rare trash talker gets laughed at or muted if they get too irritating. it never bothers me.

It might have been because they were in a party

When I was little, my daddy used to tell me, "There are people out there that will hurt you because they can." I suppose that was his way of preparing me for real life. But that's not really a "why." There's a number of reasons why, but really, the why doesn't tend to matter all that much. They do it because they can.

Because, POPULAR online shooters are full of dicks. On the other hand, unpopular online shooters are full of nice people.

Case in point: CoD and Halo's communities are full of assholes.

Shadowrun, on the other hand, has quite a nice community.

And F.E.A.R. 1...the community is kickass. In a ranked match lobby, I was able to get everyone in the match to agree to a melee only match. It was a blast.
ahh shadowrun. for some reason...i actually enjoyed that game.

Just to reiterate: most people can be dicks, over then internet it's infinitely easier due to anonymity.

Kids especially, cos they won't get spanked for calling someone else an asshole.

Or beat up.

I played a game of CTF in MW2 with some retards. We were losing easily because no one was on offense OR defense because they just want to go off and kill people. First, there's a game mode for that right? I tell them to do something that actually helps the us with our actual goal, surprise, capturing the god damn flag. You know how they respond? Just guess.

Give up? They claim they're "trying to prevent the other people from ranking up!" First off, they're gonna get exp because they're winning. Second you can't prevent someone from ranking up at all. I just hate people that play a game mode that they aren't really focusing on the goal.

People are assholes. No matter where you live, they are.

In public, they masquerade as someone completely different, and almost have an alternate personality.

But on the internet... When nobody is stopping them, and they have nothing to fear... The true form comes out.

OP it's because 99% of gamers are pussy's in real life and they only way they can feel better about this is to talk shit online. This has been brought up over 9000 times now

Abusing the report button because you get pissed off at someone is never the smart thing to do...
I suppose I wasn't very clear. If they are using profanity and hurtful vile language, and sending messages, I do believe you can file a report for that. Either that or that was one of the reasons to "avoid this player"

Tis why I never play online anymore.. What was once a semi-interesting community of people that shunned dickishness has turned into a halo fueled nightmare..

Just like most people say, they can say as much shit as they want because there is no penalty. I mean words can't hurt you or even technically ruin the game, so there is nothing infringing their ability to say whatever they want. Just mute then, simply as that, and yes if you're tired of that attitude just report those people if it gets that extreme and you might reduce those encounters.

Microphone+anonimity+lack of retribution=Absolute freaking dick who will push every little gripe and insecurity they have onto you because they can and there's nothing you can do about it. that's about the long and short of it.

OSN and XBL's admin systems are pathetic, people who behave like that on PC games tend to get banned within seconds. Sorry to be a self righteous pc dick but it's true. XBL and PSN needs some kind of user based admin system that works immediately, even if it just prevents specific players from joining a game you're already in (or prevents you from joining a game they're in).
An 'I do not wish to play future games with this user,' button is the only way I can see it working, since there's no fair way to actually ban players, maybe players getting a lot of those flags on their account could be investigated. The current system takes too long if it works at all.
I totally get what you're saying but I don't think it's an issue of lack of effective adminship, I think it's the fact that the PSN and XBL admins don't consider trash talking of that sort a problem that should be forbidden. I mean think about it, they are not actually ruining the game like hackers and glitchers do, so they are not really causing any harm iwht their words, therefore they are allowed to act as much of a dick as they want. How would you feel if you did not have the right to say whatever you want? Yes I know it's an abomination how people abuse this but oh well it's a right that XBL and PSN gives us.

Just remember, if someone acts like a dick and you totally own them, it's satisfying to get back at them by being a dick and gloating your victory over them.

Don't ask why, don't say a word, just kick their ass and smile.
I know some people who try to piss you off intentionally before the match, when pissed people are predictable/controllable and mistake more often.
