Some find acceptance in groups of dickheads. Others 'boost' their pitiful selves by attempting to knock others down. I wouldn't even play MW2 if it weren't for the mute button.

I think it goes without saying that almost every competative online shooter has annoying jerks on it and that really the only way to deal with it is to just annoy it. I mean it's true that anononimity is a major role in making people act like dicks online, combined with the competative nature of people playing to win naturally people get angry. But hey that's why lots of games have a mute button and for me that works just fine.

Oh and just for the record, Halo is no better off or worse off than any other online shooter when it comes to annoying people on its servers. I know this for despite bumping into the occassional group of annoying people online these days most people just log in to play the game and don't seem at all concerned with insulting each other... but then I may just have miraculous luck of late whenever I log in.

Because, POPULAR online shooters are full of dicks. On the other hand, unpopular online shooters are full of nice people.

Case in point: CoD and Halo's communities are full of assholes.

Shadowrun, on the other hand, has quite a nice community.

And F.E.A.R. 1...the community is kickass. In a ranked match lobby, I was able to get everyone in the match to agree to a melee only match. It was a blast.
Hey what is your handle? I might have been in that match. Lol I agree for some reason I met most of the people on my friend list from FEAR.

I attempt to either turn the other cheek, or simply mute everyone on joining a game but there has been a time or two when someone was just an absolute arsehole for no reason at all on COD4. I proceeded to join every match he was in for the next few days team killing him ( i played on hardcore and so did he. Eventually he just said he was very sorry, and i said thank you and proceeded never to bother him again.

I do agree i was extreme, but i reckon as a strategy it worked and he would of been a nice player for the next day or so to people before going back to the dick region.

I don't play online shooters for this reason. I like to play with friends in the same room because it's fun to punish them if they get annoying.

If you are going to retaliate might I point you in the direction of this helpful instructional video from the mighty Alexi Sayle!

I suck at putting these links in normally so expect it to lead to footage of tap dancing squirrels or some such!

Fingers crossed!

Don't really like playing games like Gears Of War, and Halo 3 online, as I don't use a headset, and most people are like:

"LEWK AT DAT TOTAL N00B! HE NOT GOT HEADSET! LOLFAG!"

But Team Fortress 2 on the PC isn't too bad.
(People don't insult you for not using a headset so much...)

Headsets should be disabled on public servers by default, (unless the game requires temawork and strategy). I've had a lot more fun playing Quake 3 Arena, and Unreal tournament, and Star wars battlefront as no-one ever used a headset, (either because they weren't supported, or people didn't think them manditory to buy then...).

Best online game I ever played is Monster Hunter on the PS2, and PSO on the PC, a few years back, (via the hack).
People were very co-operative and helpful, and you had better immersion that way.

I was going to say that!
So.. yeah.
There are no repercutions on the net, so its often the playground for people that need to have «power» over something.
But, they arent the majority. When i play L4D, only about one game out of 10 have some idiots in it.

Because so many people are faggots, there must be an equal or greater amount of dicks.

wait what?

So before I start this thread, yes this is on XBl, however my buddy has a PS3 which I play extensively and the people there are just as much of an asshole as the people on XBL.....they just have deeper voices.

So I was playing MW2 the other day with a full party and we were all listening to my friend tell us how his house was broken into a few hours ago (Don't worry he's fine).

*snip*
I think I found your answer.

Your three basic choices when dealing with a rough spot are:
- Change it.
- Love it.
- Leave it.
First is pretty much impossible in this case, second obviously doesn't apply... so do the smart thing (like I did) and say no to online gaming.
Nah, I love it when people talk trash to me. For example, I like making use of the fact that a lot of 13-year-olds on XBL are both very homophobic and not quite as good as me at my preferred games; though I'm not really gay, I'm certainly willing to claim to be so if it will unsettle the asshole on the other end of the mic... which also sets me up to give a fun lecture after I kick their asses about how homophobia is improper.

Actually, I still enjoy playing the original Halo on PC. Despite being years old, it still has a massive online following on the Custom Edition version, with user-created content. Anyway, the community there is exceptionally nice. You still get the odd dickwad, but mostly people on the Halo CE community are pretty damn decent.
