I personally like V.A.T.S. even though many whine about it being an "insta-win" button, I think that it's fun.
Yeah, me too. I played Oblivion recently, and hit "V". I was disappointing. I really like V.A.T.S. now.

]Everyone loved Fallout 3. Until they got to the ending.

About it as a whole...I don't know.
Fallout 1 and 2 had a precise endings that made you feel as if you archived some great lasting effect in the game. That your passage through the world left such waves that thousands of years down the track what you did or didn't do would still be affecting the outcome of fate. Not only was there a main ending, but also multiple endings for every possible ending for every major side quest. Be it you sided with the mob boss over the law in junktown or exterminated every death claw in vault... I can't remember. Ok that last one was bugged, you still got that ending even if you didn't exterminate them, ut it proves my point: Your actions felt as if they had repercussions.

Fallout 3... well it really only had two endings: One of three potential main endings, all based on your very last action and nothing more, and a Bad/Good karma ending. There wasn't even a voice over for blowing up a whole damn city for Christ sake! Fallout 1 and 2 would of been all over making sure that was worthy of having it's own ending....

So in the end you felt as if your actions really didn't matter and that made me lose all interest in replaying the game. Fallout 1 and 2 made playing as different characters actually feel as if the game had a different gameplay all together. Hell, you where even rewarded for playing a retard, low int not blood thirsty psycho, by having it's own interactions with the NPCs that could only be archived by being stupid.

Fallout 3... play it once and you pretty much have played it all.

Not to mention you could kill children with a punch in the groin with the power fist.

It doesn't matter how popular a game is there is always people who will disagree with something in a game. I loved Fallout 3 and I don't completly understand why some people don't like it.

FO3 is a good game. I recognize most of the flaws mentioned, but I enjoy the game all the same.

With a few choices thrown into the game, Bethesda have actually outdone themselves and created the kind of RPG that has always been pretty rare.
Not wanting to fund EA's new DRM scheme with ME, the most recent RPG I can say was better than FO3 was VTM:Bloodlines (though I should prolly give the Witcher a try sometime).

So I consider it a good thing that FO3, a single player RPG with some actual dialogue options and consequences and without any DRM other than a simple disc check, sold so well.

how can people say this game is bad? its great, the gameplay, graphics, and the mods for it there all great
Almost all the hate it gets is largely because it calls itself Fallout 3. If it was a new franchise then people would like it a lot more, however it pretends to be a Fallout game and thus people don't like it.

There are other reasons different people hate it but I won't go into those because they only apply to people who the original poster isn't referring to.

It's mostly resented because it's NOT Fallout. Sure, it's in a post-apocalyptic, but not only are tons of things messed up (especially the Nuclear powered exploding cars), but it also doesn't have the same "feel" as 1 and 2 did.

The gameplay is good in most aspects, but sometimes it can be a torture to go over empty wastes. I will not even mention Mr. Fatman.

The story, for the most part, is mediocre at best and the ending is a bunch of crap.

I ignore what anyone else says and just enjoy whatever I enjoy. I believe all MMORPGs are a load of shite but I don't bang on about them to anyone else.

(No, please don't try and put a case to me about good MMORPGS, I'm not listening)

If a pathetic little intrawebz-lurking creature like me can look at the game, see so much wasted potential and lack of verisimilitude then be able to improve and fix most plotholes and inconsistencies by thinking about it really hard for five minutes, one can only wonder what kind of a moron Bethesda has hired to do the writing.

And for that they deserve a solid kick in the ass.

the Elder Scrolls Series is awesome, Fallout 3 on the other hand isnt even worth buying, if you've played Oblivion, you've already played the superior version of Fallout 3.

I dont really see any point of this thread, but to make a comparison of the 2:

Oblivion > Fallout 3
Superior version? I do not believe so. Oblivion was crap and was crap because of one thing and one thing alone, the one thing Fallout 3 does not have.

Oblivion is crap because of the STPUID DIALOGUE MINIGAME!
WOrse fraking idea in a CRPG, period. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put that in the game deserves to be dragged out in the streets by their genetils and shot with 9mm hollow points repeated, starting with the limbs and ending in the head.

I thought Oblivion was crap for cookie cutter art direction and level scaling.

Good job on Bethesda for simply buying a well developed setting this time round. Though maybe I'm being a bit unfair, because Morrowind had a pretty interesting world, so it appears Beth can if they really try.
