People, really, The game is meant to be played on PC. Yknow, Mods! You hated not being able to continue? mod for that. Level cap higher? mod for that. More challenge and mobs? mod for that.

Just my humble opinion tho.

This is a repost of what I wrote in the other fallout thread, I wasn't sure how to delete that one so here it goes again :)

I've put a lot of time into fallout 3, I love the depressing atmosphere, as I loved the fantasy atmosphere of oblivion. The problem I have is the combat. I love realistic FPS games like ofp, arma, aa, ro and so on. So when I can't go iron sites, or go prone it really turns me off. Also when all these people I'm killing don't try to take cover or anything, just stand there and try shooting at me, I really loose that immersion. It's like farcry 2 where I couldn't change fire modes or go prone and people could see me behind foliage. Those kind of things really piss me off.

If this game had realistic combat I'd probably still be playing it, unfortunately it doesn't. The exploration makes up for the shitty combat though, but not enough for me to bother playing any more. I've put in about 80 hours, which means I did enjoy myself. But if the game got the gun play right I'd probably still be playing it.

Um... where is your SOURCE please? And don't say its Yahtzee... alright?
my source is all of my own friends i hang out with alot of people who play RPGs and as i said Fallout 3 seems to me to be the most immersive RPG around so i can't understand why my friends hate it so much

i was just curious if other people felt this way and why an RPG player would dislike this game, my friends can't seem to come up with any real reasons, i'm beginning to think they just haven't played the game and decided to give me crap about it

as to the post about this not being a valid thread, well it's about videogames, it's got a question, and i was genuinely curious so... seems like a valid thread to me

So games were great when the story or hints/guidance as to what to do was so convoluted you needed to guess, come across the solution accidently or just ceased to care? You don't need perspective. You just need to know the difference between FUN and lazy/frustrating game. design. F1 & F2 had some cool things you could do, but plenty of tedious crap to wade through as well. Tedious games aren't superior. They're just tedious. But if suffering while playing a videogame is fun, all the power to you. People give far too much credit to games with frustrating, often lazy design, and call it DEPTH, instead of what it should be called. Unintutive.
Execpt it isn't tedious and unintuitive, you just need to use your brain and the game doesn't take you by the hand guiding you every step, finding the water-chip in Fallout is simple granted the time-limit is a ***** and locating the Military base is probably the hardest part of the game, but it's still perfectly possible to do if you use your brain at any point.

Fallout 3 on the other hand helpfully tells you if any move you make is the correct one. And this is representative of the whole game, simpler, easier, more focus on combat and much blander, happier setting.

I never liked being forced to walk all over the place, it's not a fun thing to "explore" when it is not elective.

The Story isn't very good- Your Dad kills himself for no reason, then you decide to go on your own quest to become Ash Shadow too.

All the Oblivion problems are quite present, exploring is often pointless and well...it lacks a laugh.

I enjoyed the game don't get Me wrong but I could understand fully if someone didnt get it.

Reasons why RPG fans may dislike it are A) It called itself Fallout 3 and wasn't Van Buren (or Fallout-related). B) Some people dislike it because it plays too much like a poor FPS in their eyes. C) The main plot line is rubbish. D) Many locations are either generic or not fully fleshed out. E) There's an awful lot of Fridge Logic in the game and some plain nonsensical areas and elements. F) Lack of stats balance, if you don't want to play a shooty character then you may as well just read a plot summary cause you'll be badly underpowered. G) All the locations in the game are very cramped leaving it feeling like a ruin as opposed to a wasteland. H) Poor Dialogue. I)Some people found the setting far too depressing to play through (personally I thought it was too optimistic).

Well the weapons were horribly inaccurate without using V.A.T.S, most weapons I got degraded way too god damn fast. Since there condition went to shit level really fast, I had to waste a large sum of ammo on enemies. Every time I try to block with a melee I take the damage anyway (kinda ruins the point of blocking).

Played to level four and just didn't give a shit anymore.

The weapons are horribly inaccurate without V.A.T.S, the block feature with the melee weapons hasn't stopped any damage from occuring, the landscape is boring as hell, and it looks like a PS2 game.

I played to level four before I stopped giving a shit about it altogether.

Edit: Oops, my computer was lagging horribly so I thought my original post didn't go through.

Okay, some people have hinted about it, but let's just say it. Ready? Okay.

The reason Fallout 3 is catching so much crap is simple. It's because it tried to be a sequel to two of the finest games in the history of gaming.

Imagine if someone went a wrote a sequel to 1984. What do you think would happen? Even if it was the single greatest book written in human history, it'd still catch shit. People would still hate it, and complain about every little thing.

If someone went and wrote a sequel to LotR, the same thing would happen. There would be an outrage, people would be pissed off, they'd scream, and go nuts. It's not LotR, they'd say. It sucks, they'd say. It rapes the old books, and is a disgrace to Tolkien, they'd say.

With Fallout it's exactly the same thing. It wouldn't matter how good a game Bethesda made. It'd still catch shit, it'd still suck, and it still would not be Fallout. It could never compare, it could never live up to the name, it could never be the true sequel fans have been waiting 10 years for.

The fact that Bethesda made a pretty horrible game, reeking of flaws and bad design, is another matter entirely. That just ensures that some people who didn't know of the first games will complain as well, such as GreenDevil here.

I've played Fallouts 2 and 3, and they are both excellent games. Solid, well-designed and enjoyable, and quite frankly the complaints are clearly from people not in their right minds.

Now, that's my daily allocation of hate. Anyone care for a Nuka-Cola?

I keep hearing two sides. Most of the time thought it's the most amazing part of it. However here are a few arguments I've heard.

-It's a clone of Oblivion. Just Oblivion with guns. THAT'S IT!

-The Story line is like soooo stupid

-The RPG element is Retarded

-The voice actors are all the same

-The character creation graphics are horrible

-VATS system is stupid

-Too many Glitches

Those are what I've heard, however I dissagree with them to be a reason to hate the game. I've never played oblivion so I can't say it is a carbon copy of it, however I will agree that some of the voice actors are too similar, mostly for the Ghouls. I never would've thought they'd have Throat Cancer. However, I'm no good at critiquing actings and ect, so that one brushes by. All the rest I totally dissagree. I love the game.

I like oblivion *cry*
but really, Fallout 3 is an exellent game! even Yahtzee thougth so and that guy does nothing but whining about everything! (he still rocks though) There is a lot of people who like RPG's and there is a lot of people who like FPS' and these two has been enemies since day one! if you don't play em' both and just like one of them then you will be fighting with someone who likes the other one!

I agree. It was pretty unbelieveable that he liked it, but then again we all have games that we really love. He had to nitpick to make the review.
