Why is Fallout 3 catching so much crap?

People like to whinge about stuff. Also: people think they are god's gift to game design, and harbor secret fantasies about making their own 'perfect' (yet ultimately derivative) game.

e.g. FALLOUT 3 WOULD'VE BEEN SO MUCH BETTER IF EVERYBODY YOU MET HAD FIVE HUNDRED DIALOG OPTIONS AND ALSO YOU COULD FLY A HELICOPTER ACROSS THE WASTELAND. AND ALL THE GHOULS WERE VOICED BY SAMUEL L. JACKSON.

i like Fallout 3 alot but almost everyone i talk to says that the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games all suck, but all these people like RPGs and to me Bethesda seem to create the most immersive RPGs in the business (except Oblivion but thats a whole other discussion so lets please not argue that point just now)
Most of the ones I hear that give Bethesda crap are JRPG fan-boys

The only thing I'll complain about with this game is its ending and that it doesn't let you play past the main quest unless you get the DLC.

The ending left me so disappointed I won't be buying any of the expansions for it. My DLC money is going to GTA IV instead, which had a story much better written than Fallout's and an ending that did not disappoint me.

I also thought, incidentally, that Fable 2's ending was a bust, so I'm passing on Knothole Island as well.

All the Oblivion problems are quite present, exploring is often pointless and well...it lacks a laugh.
I'm still exploring, trying to find "named" weapons. Still torn on wether or not to kill an entire settlement just to get "Ol Painless".

You are right though, the game isn't funny. Sure there are some jokes in the side quests but the primary plotline is heavy handed and it also feels insanely rushed towards the end.

Halo's law. As a game gets more popular, the probability of someone saying it sucks approaches 1

Or it could be that people who you generally associate with generally don't share your taste in games.

the Elder Scrolls Series is awesome, Fallout 3 on the other hand isnt even worth buying, if you've played Oblivion, you've already played the superior version of Fallout 3.

I dont really see any point of this thread, but to make a comparison of the 2:

Oblivion > Fallout 3
Eh, Oblivion was longer, but I like wandering a nuclear wasteland, even if it doesn't make any sense, so I can't decide which is better. The only "crap" it would be getting is from the people who say it's Oblivion with guns, which it is, and didn't think Oblivion was as awesome as everyone else, like me. And then there's crazy fans who say it's awful just because it's different, and not as good as the old ones. Maybe the OP thinks crap means moderate amounts of people thinking the game was only mediocre, and are possibly upset that Oblivion wasn't as good as Morrowind.

Fallout 3 was overhyped, many expected features were not there and many people's expectations were completely missed. It wasn't a bad game, but it wasn't awesome either. The problem was Bethesda had so many people expecting something amazing that when the game turned out to only be 'pretty good' or 'alright', it just made it feel worse than that.

Of course I think the diehard fan base was a bit over the top, but then they had their expectations completely vaporised from a RP point of view.

So it wasn't a bad game, it just didn't do what everyone was expecting. ( Though I thought the constant brown scenery and lack of car/ bike/ oblivion horse equilvalent was really annoying after a while)

Well, I love Fallout and Oblivion. Apart from poor voice acting I found nothing wrong with immersion in either game. Especially Oblivion. I must be the only guy in the world who prefers Oblivion.

I've heard far more positive feedback than negative feedback for the game while surfing the net. The negative feedback seems to be in the minority. Mostly the fanboys with over the top expectations. I overall very much enjoyed the game but i still need to finish the main story and i'm a little hessitent now that i hear the ending isn't all that great.

personally, i disdain what we have done where every interaction must be voice acted. It breeds the hatred for voice actors.

That being said, i LOVE moira.

Just started playing the other day on muh new pc rig

Also, a little snide comment to the consolers, I never really felt fallout was suited for the fallout community. These are the people who play gta for gods sake
