Heh, thankfully the wall of text that passed for my last post didn't put people off the thread altogether...
It's interesting to see what other peoples' stand out moments of FFVII are. For me, it was coming out of Midgar for the first time. I'd been running round the city for a long time now, and it felt like so much had happened there that I sort of got it into my head that's where the whole game was based. Then came this huge escape from Shinra HQ on a motorbike (you do not want to know how badly Cloud's insurance went up after
that little jaunt) and suddenly I was outside and the entire world opened up to me and I realised just how immense it was. I think my brain might have melted a little at that point.
I also remember the excitement of trying to find out WTF was going on. That's another thing that worked well for me, was the way the game threw you right in the thick of tha bombing mission, and you were loaded up with what turned out to be false misconceptions about who you were and why you were there. Watching Cloud's mind unravel came as much of a shock to me as it did to him, I reckon.

And realising that Tifa knows some things he doesn't but is holding back... Yeah, it was all too easy for me to get sucked into that plot.
The game also served as a source of frustration when I unlocked Vincent. Mainly because here was this guy who was right there at the start of the Jenova Project, working for the enemy and is, in this fangirls' opinion, seriously hot, and there was almost nothing there about him. Apart from the aforementioned "Lucrecia!" of course.

I wanted more!
Oh, and the steampunk style setting was really cool.
