Why is Kaiden Alenko so popular?

Last time I checked, Kaiden wasn't that popular. Garrus and Tali have WAY more fans than he does. Heck, Wrex has more fans than Kaiden. When I checked on other forums Kaiden was always 2nd to last, just ahead of Jacob (whom the majority hates).

Haha, maybe it's just on a few fan fiction sites that the Kaiden fans (all 10 of them) gather.

If you bothered to talk to him in between missions, he revealed his back story... in which he killed a Turian by roundhouse kicking it in the face as a teen.

Then again, I only liked him because he wasn't a racist fuck like Ashley was. Not to mention he was actually useful. Hell, he seemed to actually have a personality, too. So, Ashley got nuked.

For girls he's just that guy. You know, it's a girl thing.

For longtime RPGers it's because he's essentially Carth Onasi in a different wrapper, voice included.

For most though, its because its someone, at least from my point of view, I can actually see myself hanging out with in real life. He's an average guy with average tastes and average skills (minus the biotics). I could ask him what his favourite meal is, and he could easily answer pizza, garlic bread, roast chicken, or turkey, wheras with any alien on the ship it'd be something i've ever heard of.

If you're asking why girls like him, that's kind of a girl thing. Just don't bother. You're better off that way. Even if you got an explanation, would you understand it? No. You don't know what you're getting into. Why don't you just propose a Sasuke/Hinata coupling on Youtube? You would get flamed into a crisp. The only reason you're safe is because you're putting this on the Escapist. I would just drop it. The Fan-girls are deadly outside of these walls.

Also, I didn't even know who Kaiden was until shortly before Virmire. I went down into the Normandy and saw this random guy called Kaiden, and didn't know who he was, until I remembered he was that guy on Eden Prime.

Are fangirls really that savage and stupid? I was merely on a quest for knowledge and understanding(though due to the fact that it was about Kaiden, its not as awesome as I'm describing it). Are they really that blinded over something as stupid as a video game character?

Not all, but haven't you heard of the wrath of fan-girls? I thought it was legendary. Maybe I'm wrong. I think it's mostly people being passionate about something. Also, I have a deep rooted fear of woman because I was completely surrounded by girls who were older than me for most of my childhood, and generally thought I was a nuisance and put fear into me. So I could be overreacting.

kickyourass: If you go to fanfiction.net, go to the Mass Effect section, choose Kaiden for the first character slot, then put shepard in the second character slot, you realize that the 2nd most amount of fanfic posts come up. 1st being Garrus and Shepard of course, and third being Tali and Shepard.

Word to the wise, when you want to respond to someone's post, quote them, that way they know you're talking to them. It's just easier.

Anyway, I don't take fan fiction writrs very seriously, more often then not they are an extreme minority within that particular fanbase. But still I haven't seen anything to get excited about with Alenko, he is probably the only character in all of Bioware that I didn't fall in love with.

I do hate Alistair though. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Now I never got everyone's hate for Prince Ali (Glorious He). He was one of my favourite characters, the others being Shale and Sten.

Carth and Kaidan, however, are really boring examples of the 'Generic Male Sidekick' trope that Bioware likes to milk. Alistair, to be honest, was a breath of fresh air.

I didn't particularly like him. Didn't hate him, just found him rather bland when compared to, say, a talking space-crocodile badass. Same goes for Ashley. Not bad, just kinda boring.

I suspect that most of those who really liked him were female. Obviously the nature of their interest is rather different to yours.

I suspect that he was designed specifically to be appealing to female players. From what I hear, they did a pretty good job of it. Same goes for Alistair in Dragon Age.

Lieutenant Alenko had arguably the most interesting backstory (excepting Urdnot Wrex) of the Normandy SR-1 crew.

Plus, he's hot

I didn't like him at all. I never spoke to him, and killing him was a really easy choice (A guy's gotta have someone to bone right?) although joke's on me because I cheated on Ashley with Miranda (Much hotter, less annoying and DAMN THAT ASS)

lol i cheated on her with miranda for 2 reasons
1)she was alot hotter,smarter,and usefull then her
2)i know theres gonna be a cat fight later and i didnt want tali involved and lets face it if jack got involved with me shed kill me with her

I dunno, he was Shepards 2nd in Command, and since it was either him or Ashely... I chose Ashley.
Although he sounded liek a wife in ME2, I thought he was a pretty cool guy
