Why is Maplestory fun?

4 missions can't make a game fun... hmm.. how about left4dead? lol And yes, maple story is just another mmorpg(I left out the word "grind" cause that is the definition of an mmorpg), which is why if you dont like them dont bother. But for what it is, it was done well and has a vast world to explore if you take them time to get there. Playing a game for 1 hour and saying it's junk is not a worthy argument. In that situation Assassins Creed 2 is garbage, I was bored to tears for the first 3 hours of that eventually-fun game.

I thought it was the stupidest thing since shit on toast, but then I started playing...
What did it for me was one encounter.

I was walking along, pretty low level, when in front of me, I see this level 80 wizard, casting the most Badd-Ass spells Iv'e ever seen. I knew that I wanted to be that, or at least someone as powerfull as that. So that was the light at the end of the tunnel for me, the one thing that kept me playing. I wanted to be using elaborate clourfull talents, one shotting low level enemies, and having epic encounters with high level ones.

I played it for about 6 months a couple of years ago. It was okay, but nothing to write home about. What turned me off was the utter lack of sportsmanship amongst players who encountered someone like me who had never played an MMO before. They were all assholes and no one wanted to help me, even after I joined a guild.

....I don't like maplestory though because it's so uneven in terms of play. In their new dungeon you go from fighting Lv 25's in one room to fighting Lv 70's in the next!....

Don't forget about those zifing evil worms that look harmless and easy to kill and then one-hit kill you and have seemingly unlimited health.

Oh please that's nothing, for their special holiday event they had a giant Lv 100+ cake walking around IN EACH TOWN. Making you scared of even going into town without dying, not to mention towns are suppose to be safe havens for you to go AFK or something.

When I played, someone hacked the game and spammed each town with tons of mushrooms. All the low level people were dying left and right. It was good fun for those of us who had enough HP and whatnot.

well, I played maple story for about a year a while back and then I switched over to Ragnarok Online. Both of these games are very "grind heavy" games. For some reason I like killing 13,000 creamies for their card in Ragnarok. I've tried "good" mmorpgs and just never got into them (like wow, warhammer, etc) maybe it's because I tried to grind in them too and that just doesn't work.

I will agree that these games really only appeal to a very specific kind of person and are in no way "good" at all. Ragnarok online is one of the worst "games" i've ever played but I still played it for 3 years and loved every minute of it. Same with Maple Story.

I got to about level 18 before I went: "This really isn't fun at all." stopped playing it and never tried it again. That being said I hate all "em em oh ar pee geez" so it's not really maple story. Though I did have one problem in particular with it, Why the fuck is it called maple story? I have yet to see any Maple

Then you havnt been playing. Theres the maple bandana which is covered in maple leafs. Maple items which are maple leafs as handles/blades/tips/penis

Its not fun.

Its not even a competition about who can grind the most, (like most are) Its got no PVP either. Its more of a competition about who has the best undetectable hack.

And when you look at the scoreboards, you don't think "wow, he must have no life", you think "wow, he must have a good hack".

Its a game almost specifically made for hackers, as far as im concerned it should be avoided like the plague.

That I can understand, hackers can do such things. Put this was some programmers idea to have a giant high level boss cake roam town. I kind of miss the game really, though somethings about it make me think again.

It isn't fun to me at all, maybe it's because I lack friends to play with but mashing my attack key over and over again to kill pigs for no real reason other than to unlock more quests to kill MORE pigs is not fun in my opinion!

But some people like it I guess, that's their decision, they probably have friends to play with!
