It doesn't just help with cancer, it can help eating disorders, AIDS, joint pain and arthritis (since it's a powerful anti-inflammatory), certain heart conditions, trouble getting to sleep, and boredom.

Marijuana is suited as both a medical treatment, and a recreational drug, so why keep it from being one or both?

It's like alcohol (barring the potential poisoning, hangovers, damage to several vital organs, and severe impairment of motor skills) in that people would likely be doing it in their own homes, privately.

I think dealers would die out. I for one don't want to deal with having to find a dealer and having to worry about their trustworthiness. I'm pretty sure that people would begin buying it from stores, and at the start the dealers would just lose a big load of their buyers, but in the end it would become totally unprofitable.

Of course there'd still be those hardcore people growing their own stuff, but I think in the end, not many people would be bothered to get their stuff from a dealer if they can just get it down at the corner.

I know a whole lot of people that grow/dry their own tobacco and a lot more people who brew their own beer. The government still makes a killing off of those because they tax the sale of the drugs to people who can't (or just won't) go through that arduous process. They also tax the commercial ventures that make and sell the drugs quite a lot, mind you.

Now, production of your own distilled liquor is illegal for a few reasons, but the government still taxes both the making and the selling.

Similarly, the state or federal government could tax the growing, selling, buying, and licensing of cannabis while putting similar restrictions on growing it as they already have on distilling your own moonshine.

Sure, there would still be a lot of "freebooters," but there would still be a bunch of tax revenues.

Weed helps with a lot of things, but people are always going to want to use it for recreational reasons.

No, I don't have any of the problems listed above, but I, like all people, get stressed. And when I get stressed, there are hobbies, and getting high with friends to help reduce stress levels.

That said, there are a many drugs out there which have specific medical purposes, and are otherwise deadly if taken out of moderation. For instance, Adderal or Ritalin. Both drugs are legal to use if you have a prescription, and can cause some pretty nasty things to happen if you take too much, which a lot of kids I used to know did a lot.

I dunno about you, but I'd much rather have someone I know smoking a bowl than poppin' a few Ritalin.

Because of corporation... Period, tobacco companies are BIG easily taxable on a large scale, and thus highly proffitable, alcohol has been produced by families and companies in an established sense for as long as history has existed... Marajuana has never had that kind of established backing, therefor it would require expensive and bothersome retooling for regulation of production, quality testing and assurance, and taxation of an industry that doesn't really EXIST as a unified body yet... IF there had been marketing campains and corporate entities behind it before prohibition was enacted, it would have come back with booze... Since it was NEVER a point of proffit for the governmental bodies through regulated taxation before, and that it would cost them money to allow for that, they figure there's no real good reason to allow anyone to make money off of it if they can't so it's illegal... to an extent... where I live possession is fine, unless you have enough to reasonably sell to someone, or are smoking it in a place where someone's gonna get bothered by it... but then again where i live it's also illegal to smoke cigarettes in a wide variety of public places... so that doesn't really bother anyone... also there are ways to get a card that allows you to buy and possess larger quantities of it for your own medical use... you just hafta know the right doctor...
