so by that logic, if a person was racist (or hateful to a particular ethnic group) because of a logic reason, it would be ok? How about old Chinese people who lived in Nanjing their whole life and had the Rape of Nanjing inflicted upon that persons sister, mother and grandmother? Would it be ok for them to hate Japanese people because of the traumatic experience that happened?AD-Stu said:It's because misanthropy isn't discriminatory - if you hate everyone then nobody gets left out. Or genocide.lunncal said:Anyone who really hated humanity altogether would almost certainly have committed suicide
Pretty much. Even if their misanthropy is from a distorted view of humanity (maybe they had a rough time growing up, or abusive parents, or their Significant Other was killed in a senseless mugging, etc) it normally is somewhat rational, given the circumstances.AD-Stu said:It's because misanthropy isn't discriminatory - if you hate everyone then nobody gets left out. I wouldn't just assume they all had the same motivations and experiences. There's any number of ways people can reach those attitudes.Blablahb said:That's not true. Unfortunately, some prejudices are still more common that others, and better supported in religious texts. It's changing, though. The tide is turning, and more and more good Christian people are starting to look at those passages the way mainstream Mulims are looking at those passages about Holy War... with distaste and sincere backpedaling. This is all to the good.Dexiro said:I think a better question would be why aren't all prejudices treated equally.
It's not ok to be sexist or racist but it is ok to be homophobic? Not cool brah.

Nothing will lead quicker to total social ostricization than to let loose a few racist comments and slurs. We all hate those ignorant, hate filled fucks. My question is why doesn't this attitude carry over to misanthropes, those folks who hate all of humanity instead of just some particular segment? Misanthropes enjoy a much warmer cultural reception. He can be seen as charming and sympathetic, someone fed up with the bullshit of his species. Even at his worst, the general misanthrope is received better than a racist.
Why is this? Shouldn't it logically follow that misanthropes are worse people than racists if they do the racist's job and then some?
Though hate to tell you this: Their right... humans are disgusting a race.
Misanthropes hate humanity's bullshit, an understandable if sometimes prickish view, racists hate a certain group of people for either no reason or for some drastically incorrect stereotype.Chefodeath said:I think we can all agree that there are few attitudes as taboo in the modern age as racism.
