I don't quite understand why people have been proclaiming the PC gaming is "dead" for so long I mean I go to the store and there's still a big selection of games..and many games coming out this year

also I know to do it properly you have to buy/build som monstrosity of a machine...but I have my laptop which works reasonably well graphics wise and runs most things on High (though I wouldnt trust it to run Crysis) ok I'm probably not doing it "properly" but anthing that can run far cry 2 on high is good enough for me

Someone get the picture!

You know the one.

It's not dead, but it is smaller than console gaming. Big whoop. So consoles are the main focus of developers and publishers now. PC gaming is alive & well. Just not the primary market.

For a while PC gaming wasn't too healthy, but now it's as strong as ever. Even more than console, i'd say :)

Its not dead by any means. It has lost a couple of limbs, and been hit by a few passing vehicles on the way. But its not dead yet.

because most people either can't afford a gaming pc, don't have the technical aptitude or can't be bothered to go through all the trouble and setup when a console is just as good and much easier

It is dead in the same sense that the bicycle industry is dead since the invention of the car.
Sure cars (consoles) make more money, have the bigger companies, than bikes (PC), but that doesn't mean that it's dead.

Well, a lot of people say that PC gaming is dying because profits from it per usable system are tragically low compared to console gaming. Producing console games can often just be fare more profitable, with much less piracy.

Its like how people say the entirety of art is dead, just 'cause there's no avant-garde any more.

Its a matter of fearful generalization.
Still, pirates are making many devs feel less willing to produce for the PC, so they're generally being jerks and ruining everything for the rest of us.
If you can't pay, don't play.

It's just one of those catchy phrases that is made to be repeatable even though it is suspect in the face of evidence.

PC gaming is dead, eat your five a day (globally the number of fruit and vegatable portions you should have are heavily disagreed on), Psychic detectives, repressed memories, Criminal profiling, Astrological consultant. All buzzword crap, all ignorable.

The 3 million Steam users logged on today say no.
Not to mention the 24-ish million other people with steam accounts.

PC gaming is alive and well, the big difference is that console gaming got alot bigger, and still grows.

Who has time for this stuff while the steam sales are on.
Quoted TFW. In 8 hours time I'll be treating myself to something or other from those lovely generous folks.
