Why is PSP generally disliked while DS does so well?

So 9 is really good as well? Hmm I might go for FF7 and then buy FF9 whenever I end up beating 7.
I do not know if 9 is good, I never really finished it so i plane on getting it when it comes out. It has a general cult following and it's a throwback to the classic FF games so if you enjoyed the old 8 and 16 bit games you maybe end up enjoying 9 as well.

The most often that stupid complaint comes up is when people talk about their precious shooters...hey does anyone else remember the N64? ya know...with goldeneye and PD? that's what I thought. Hell the DS doesn't have one and no one complains.

Anyways, like I mentioned before, both systems are great and have unique experiences to offer. I chose the PSP because it had the games and features I wanted, and I have not once regretted my purchase. Be it ignorance or personal preference, people will always find an excuse to ***** and rag on the other hardware.
Well to give credit to those morons the DS can get away without analogue sticks because it's not trying to offer a mini-console experience and instead opts out for more "pick up and play" minigames that are capable of being run off of a touch screen and button pad. The PSP doesn't have that excuse since it's trying to offer a sloppily shoe-horned mini-console experience which the past two generations have proven to run better with two sticks rather than just one.

But on a more general note you can probably tell where I stand on the PSP. Most of what it offers can either be better experienced on a console or, on the media side, through any respectable MP3 player which everyone pretty much has anyway. If for some reason you want to have a deep gaming experience on the fly then maybe the PSP has a place but for me I never find myself in a position beyond the comfort of my living room where I'm willing to loose myself in a time consuming shoot-em-up, fighter, or RPG. I might be willing to flail about in mario, though, but then again I could just as well satisfy myself with a book or Zune and avoid purchasing more pricey gaming hardware.

The PSP started off kind of like the PS3. Neither had many games to start off with so they sucked, but now they have much better games than their competitors!

Neither are marketed that much either so they're still largely unpopular.

I have to say that I prefer my PSP over my DS. I have played a ton of great games on my DS, from Chrono Trigger and Final FAntasy IV, to Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2, and Digimon World: Dusk. PSP has a bunch of other games that I've loved, from Dissidia: Final Fantasy (can't remember the last time I clocked 160 hours into a game) to Crimson Gem Saga, Crisis Core: final Fantasy VII, and the slew of great PS1 classics! I mean really, either way, you're getting a great console, the PSP just got off to a slower start. You can also use your PSP to play music and movies, as well as download movies, tv shows, and even comic books, off the Playstation Network

It seems everyone else has pretty much answered the question, but I'll add one note to this thread; because it's Nintendo and Sony. Nintendo's been in the gaming industry since the Third or Fourth Console Generation, they've got alot of experience, and Second-Party Companies behind them. You may not like the types of games that they have, or what mechanics they use; but you can not deny that Nintendo's stuff is Durable, generally Bug-Free, and nicer on the wallet. Remember (well, you might not) the 3D Rave that was going on with the $300-$400 3DO and Jaguar? All Nintendo had was the unassuming 16-bit SNES and still beat them with the inexpensive Donkey Kong Country. Essentially I think History is repeating it's self, and that the PS3 just might be the last console Sony may do (though they could try to stick it out).
Sorry if you disliked the Rant.

PSP's got lots of potential, but not a lot of it is actually utilized well by Sony, especially in North America.
It's library is vastly superior in Japan (though not up to DS quality), and the cool Japan-only attachments (like the camera) add some really cool functionality to it. Japan and the US also get their Manga/comic store (which both EU and Canada lacks). You can see a lot more of the PSP's capabilities when it's hacked though. A hacked PSP can read manga, both online and from memory stick, read ebooks, have a large amount of additional functionality installed (I use my PSP as an alarm clock), watch YouTube videos, and run Windows. It's even got a N64 and DS emulator for it.
But the lack luster library really kills that system. The library isn't bad, but it's certainly not great, especially when going up against the DS.

DS had two screens. gimics will always triumph. psp is better than DS and the Xbox/PS3 is better than the wii, but which one sells the most.

I think it can be summed like this. Handhelds are best when marketed towards to kids with addictive RPG games (Pokemon, Animal Crossing, NintenDogs). Games where the real fun is showing your friend your level 80 Charzard and seeing his 68th level whatever. The PSP tried to be a console you can take any where which would of worked but it's a really crappy console that doesn't have any of the games you like to play on it. The majority of the time I played my PSP I was frustrated that I couldn't play it on my TV.

The PSP has early-PS1 loading times.

Well, mine has and it's horrible. When it still worked(power button is broken) I could start Dungeon Siege(only game worth buying when I got my PSP), select a save and it would take about 8 minutes to load, which is roughly the same time it takes my 360 to install a full game.

Also, the few PSP games I played all had weird bugs that should have been found during playtesting. Dungeon Siege(the game I played the most) had quite a few AI bugs with the most serious bug being that enemies simply refused to move if they weren't on-screen while projectiles kept moving until they hit something.

You ask why gamers dislike the psp, then admit the selection of games (hey, let's keep in mind thats what gamers do, game) sucks.

Seems pretty self explanatory to me, it's an mp3 player that's way too big.

You've never played Dissidia, Crisis Core, Crimson Gem Saga, or either of the Star Ocean games, have you? That, and its volume doesn't go high enough for me to REALLY enjoy my metal...

Mainly because the Psp games are spinoff pieces of shit filled trash. While most ds games are made specifically for the DS

I love my PSP-1000 (for those of you keeping track at home, thats the original one). I think it is all fanboy bullshit. The Nintendo crowd has it's handheld and it doesn't want to see anything else come out.

The homebrew scene on the DS is fantastic with movies, great ports of Lemmings & Doom & Rise of the triad, and most importantly for me books.
There are movies for the DS? And you can get books on them? I never knew that...

To me, the PSP's library is nothing but an EXTREMELY SMALL catalogue and downgraded library of games when compared to the Playstation consoles. I mean seriously, a lot of the games are just ports or exclusive spinoffs/sequels/prequels of games on the consoles. They are not really many original games for the damn thing like on the DS.

I always thought it was an over-designed meaningless paperweight honestly. The PSP was originally targeted to a demographic that didn't exist and I don't think it ever really recovered from it. This video proves it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rY4Q3WkaUU

It's probably because the number of good games for the PSP can be counted on your hands, and that's coming from a PSP owner. Which, thinking of it logically, is probably just a byproduct of the handheld having so few games released for it in general.

I adore Metal Gear Acid 1 & 2, among a few other titles, but I'd honestly write the PSP off as a total loss.
