An honest deep down part of me wants the current world leaders to mess up to the point where it is socially acceptable for me to go to their house and punch them in the face. I'm looking at you Obama, Boehner, Reid, and 90% of congress.

Actually , The people who "run" world are generally quite intelligent, but you must realize that with all of the power they have and their limited amount of knowledge(no matter how many informants) their decisions ALWAYS have unforeseen implications that have to be buffed out.

no move to change the world works out perfectly since the world plays by its own rules.

The worst kind of hate-threads are the ones where the OPs aren't clear, ask a very vague question, make sweeping generalizations, and consist of spelling errors. But most of all, they never fucking offer any solutions.

This is one of them.

OT: What's the point of telling/asking us this? Write to your local governing official and express your concern in a clear, concise manner. This is just a bullshit way of getting topic views without actually doing anything useful in the process.
Ouch...but I can't disagree too much, though.

Except about the motives...this is more likely the online equivalent of prayer or protests marches. It stops you feeling guilty about doing nothing, without having to actually do anything.

Unlimited money and power tend to lead towards bad decisions. It's also easy to blame things on the guy in charge even though they really aren't to blame for everything bad that happens. There's a lot common folk that would do the exact same thing if they were given the oppurtunity that those in charge have.

Idiots, I don't think so.

More like "Unforseen consequences."

To answer your question, not everyone is an idiot, they are simply too selfish.

Douglas Adams said it best,
"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves into a position of power should on no account be allowed to do the job."

The people who actively seek leadership positions do so because they're greedy. Why do you think Dictatorships never turn out well, because the one person with power uses it to exploit everyone else.

It's because everyone believes that the world needs to be run by someone. So it's us idiots who chose to have idiots rule. Pat yourself on the back for that.

IMHO, it's a mixture of:

A) Because the general public, IE, us, keeps voting for them and supporting them into power.

B) They aren't idiots, it's just that the general public finds it easier to abuse them rather than research the issue so they can actually understand why the decision was made.

C) Every decision is going to hurt someone, and that someone is going to be very vocal about why it is a massive disaster for the country, as they equate themselves with everyone else.

D) Nobody cares about all the vital but boring decisions world leaders have to make until they get one wrong.
Umm...
Uh...
Err...
Hmm...

Yeah, this was basically what I was going to say.

They are not idiots, they are smart enough to get in a position of great power so they certainly are no fools.

Now as for all the crap they pull: "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutly."

Because we're humans. And humans are stupid. Politicians are not human though, they're something else...
They're all liars. And that's about it.

Simple answer? Most people are, in fact, stupid. This means that most people that manage to become in control of things...are also stupid. Further...well. In large groups, people are generally even more stupid. Now, large groups of people elect politicians. Large groups of people are generally stupid. This tends to mean they select people who do not have their best interests at heart, or have poor judgment or otherwise aren't 'the best possible choice'. So...well. The world ends up being run by people who aren't perfect. Similarly, people who win elections are generally ideologues, instead of people willing to find a solution to problems. This...has its own problems.

While I agree with most of what you say, you don't get to /thread yourself. Gotta wait for someone else to do it.

In any case, stupidity transcends political parties. Just about everyone is stupid. Stupid stupid stupid. And chances are, even the huge number of you who consider yourselves super transcendent geniuses-- most of you are going to screw the pooch somewhere, at some point. Whether its nailing your bosses secretary when he unexpectedly pops back in to pick up some papers he forgot... or going ahead and buying that dream home property that is infested with snakes [http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/15/idaho-house-snakes_n_877249.html]

There are two kinds of people; idiots and idiots who think they can do a better job.

Serious answer: The reason because there are more idiots than smart people is because one requires you to speak and the other requires you to listen. (Or, idiots elect idiots).

Foolish answer: Takes one to know one.

It has Multiple Reasons
People don't get elected based on intelligence, they get elected based on Charisma- Think about it, Obama didn't get elected because of his sound Fiscal Policy, he got elected because he had a nice smile, your never going to see a bespecled Nerd Become President, no matter how many Economic Degrees he may have.

Remember everyone who goes into politics chooses too, this means that the idea of power appeals to all the people you elect-maybe some will have benevolent intentions but many are in it for themselves-and whats good for one politician is usually not as good for the state as a whole, in America this is worsened by Lobiests (Or whatever you call them) if they aren't giving out Bribes Like candy I'd be Amazed.

Linking to my Previous Point most Politicians have one goal- Re-election. This means they aren't going to support the unpopular-but-necessary measures unless they have no choice. This is what is causing this argument in America at the moment, The Republicans won't back the one measure America needs to stay Afloat-Raise Taxes, as that would ruin their Brand Image (Of course you could cut your massive defence Budget...but hell will freeze over before that happens)

I'm so tempted to launch an international relations explanation discussing realism, liberalism, and constructivism.

Then I decided it'd be simpler to just say because people in general are stupid.
