Why is there so much stigma attached to Pokemon?

I pretty much forced everyone I know to at the very least tolerate Pokemon. Quite often, conversations will end with discussion about Pokemon, is brings back so many memories, that it is easy to discuss.

I am ambiviliant towards the entire thing for the most part. When the craze made it's way to the US, I was well out of the demographic. I had played Magic: The Gathering for a short while sometime before pokemon launched and it appeared to be a grab at a younger audience. The games that I have played are competent for a time but highly repetative and won't hold my interest long. The Cardgame has always been exactly like MTG only lacking some of the head crushing depth (I'm not saying this is actually a bad thing, just an observation). In general, I do hold any real opinion on the subject or the people who choose to partake in the consumption of related media. That said, since most of those people who do enjoy these things are younger than me, I often find we have different frames of reference on a variety of subjects. People who's first games were on the PS2 literally shock me. I don't think I'm hold but when I hear that sort of thing I start to reconsider my position. 20 is the new 30 I guess.
Dude, you be trippin balls. You just can't be relatin to us young people.

Word.

Pokemon? The game? Ridiculed? Where the hell do you live; I want to make sure I never go there...

At my school, Pokemon is considered awesome. People will, every now and then, bring an old school Gameboy with Red or Blue on it, and that will commonly result in a detailed conversation about the game in general.

Hell, kids will randomly break out in the Pokemon theme song every now and then. If Pokemon ain't cool, I don't wanna be cool.
I wanna go to your school. :[

Because many gamers are overcompensating by trying to make themselves look artificially more mature in a vain attempt to convince themselves that gaming isn't kid's stuff and Pokemon is a kid's show so they must spurn it to look more mature. As for me... games are toys, I play with toys and I'm in college. Never grow up.

The reason that I've come to ridicule Poke'Mon is simply because the new Poke'Mon, to me, just look like utter shit. After a certain game I began to see what they had and noticed the style of them changed. We went from having creatures that looked like real animals and, at times, objects, to having things that look like they're made of fuedal era japanese tiles pasted on an amorphous blob of clay.

Why were the Legendary Birds so damn awesome? Because it was easier to conceive a bird of flames, ice, or electricity that appeared as such. I haven't dug into the series lately but I will say I did have fun with it. Given the chance I might go out and buy one of the older games that doesn't look like it has some 2-year old's rendition of the monster under his bed on the front cover.

Getting away from such a shallow point, the game's gotten repetitive with only minor editions to it. The core game is the same thing, and I don't just mean the RPG element. I'm talking about the story. Get a poke'mon. Go around the world to collect them. Fight and battle your favorite ones to higher levels and pwn some gym leader. Go beat the evil organization and the big bad asses at the top of the game. End. It's always the same shit, and they still impress the whole 'buy two' versions just to 'catch'em all.'

I think it's because it is so clearly marketed to kids even if teens and adults like it. When you can't get a Charizard shirt outside of youth sizes you know you just aren't supposed to like it...even though you do.
