Why is this zombie eating my foot?

Scenario: A zombie entered my room and started eating my foot, this raised a question in my mind and luckily it hasn't devoured my hand, so I'll be able to pose this question to my fellow Escapists.

Is there any explanation/reason that a human who has lost their human nature, would immediately follow humans around to eat them?

As far as I know, humans don't have a deep repressed urge to eat each other, otherwise people would always gnaw on each others foots whenever they got drunk. Because of this, zombified humans eating other humans make no sense to me, perhaps it shouldn't and I'm thinking too much into it, but still...

Also: I think you should stick around after you post, suddenly I really really want to know how your brains taste if you like tea.

In case of magic zombies, well. A Wizard Did It.

In case of viral zombies, it's compulsion to attack. One of the classic attack forms is chewing on offender. Or maybe it's a hormonal mess-up, or something.

Zombies don't follow human instinct, they are victims of a flesh-eating virus called Solamnus.
For further information, check out "The Zombie Survival Guide" or "World War Z", both of which by Max Brooks, who is something of a Zompocalypse guru.

There's no explanation as such, but it can be justified by saying that if they didn't attack people then it wouldn't make for a scary movie.

Well it's true people don't repress the urge to eat people, but they do repress the urge to kill other people, and perhaps the zombie just wants to kill you. OR it just needs to chew on things to sharpen up his teeth so that he can munch on mailboxes when all the people have been turned to zombies.

Rabies can sometimes do that to a person, so yeah, I guess that is kind of a reason.

If some new strain of rabies formed, zombies are possible

(Possible in the sense that a meteor could drop in from outer space and smite me at any moment)

Even zombies have to eat (in the newer movies, games and twilight).
In older movies zombies were eating only brain. Why? Well, in Return of the living dead zombies could talk and one of the zombies said that eating brains makes the pain (of rotting, injuries and mental problems) go away. Simple enough. It doesn't have to make sense, it has to entertaining.

Actually your just less than twice as likely to get hit by a meteor than a bolt of lightening.

Although the chances are 1 in 6 million per year but it has to happen to some body.

(Lightening is 1 in 10 million per year, incase you wanted to know.)

It sort of dates back to classic vampire stories, drinking blood to make up for the fact that you have none. This was translated into zombies eating brains because they wanted them but didnt have them. Now the whole brain-eating thing is seen as cliche so zombies were persuaded to give the rest of the body an equal chance.

Generally hard to have a conversation over the shotgun blasts.
Now you're just making excuses.
You're right. The black prince says we should be more tolerant.

That's not always true. They can be attributed to necromancers, other viruses (like 28 Days Later's RAGE Virus) and many other crazy stuff.

Well, if they didn't eat you they wouldn't be scary. 'nuff said.

In the middle of a city live humans are the only readily available large-quantity source of raw meat.

I'm assuming that if a zombie horde were to happen upon a herd of cows, the cows would be goners as well before the mass of zobies moved onwards.
