Scenario: A zombie entered my room and started eating my foot, this raised a question in my mind and luckily it hasn't devoured my hand, so I'll be able to pose this question to my fellow Escapists.

Is there any explanation/reason that a human who has lost their human nature, would immediately follow humans around to eat them?

As far as I know, humans don't have a deep repressed urge to eat each other, otherwise people would always gnaw on each others foots whenever they got drunk. Because of this, zombified humans eating other humans make no sense to me, perhaps it shouldn't and I'm thinking too much into it, but still...

Also: I think you should stick around after you post, suddenly I really really want to know how your brains taste if you like tea.
ot wouldn't be that interesting if they were going around killing ants & bees.

Rabies can sometimes do that to a person, so yeah, I guess that is kind of a reason.

If some new strain of rabies formed, zombies are possible

(Possible in the sense that a meteor could drop in from outer space and smite me at any moment)
Actually your just less than twice as likely to get hit by a meteor than a bolt of lightening.

Although the chances are 1 in 6 million per year but it has to happen to some body.

(Lightening is 1 in 10 million per year, incase you wanted to know.)
That cannot possibly be true, almost twice as many people are hit by meteors than lightning?

my take on why they eat raw flesh is this: the virus kills the brain and the body starts to decompose, however the virus kick starts the regeneration system and hijacks the brain, the virus then controls the host to infect others and devour living material in order to keep the regeneration ticking over, the zombies eventually sop running when the muscles decompose when the regeneration fuel runs out

my brain probably tastes pretty bad raw
also, being British I love a cup of tea

There's no explanation as such, but it can be justified by saying that if they didn't attack people then it wouldn't make for a scary movie.
True, a movie about a virus that makes people try to rape each other wouldn't be as scary.....actually, now that I think of it, yes it would. I think that actually would be scarier. Somebody should make that.

Ok, now I see that you're not taking this seriously, and being sarcastic. It's common knowledge that zombies are terrified of bee stings, so why would they attack bees?

Dont zombies bite/eat other people in order to spread the virus? It differs with each movie etc.

I'm pretty sure it's just Animal Instinct. They want meat in general and most Humans are made of meat

Admittedly it is a little miss leading, I'll quote the book.

"It is estimated that a large asteroid hits the earth once every million years. Statistically, this event is now well overdue. A dangerous asteroid is more than 2KM in diameter the shock would be the equivalent of to one million megatons of TNT, when it strikes the death toll would be over a billion, so the chances of you dying in any given year are 1 in 6 million. "

So while it is a little misleading, it is still possible.

Misleading? Yeah no shit, it's talking about a single humanity extinction causing event, and spreading the statistic over years

Well it's only a billion, last time I looked there were 6.8 billion people on this planet ... maybe we could do with a billion less people?

any meteor big enough to kill a billion would throw up debris that would block the sun, all the plants would die, then the herbivores, then the carnivores, then the omnivores, and all that would be left is the little critters beneath the ground

It would be the dinosaur extinction all over again

Pretty much this. Human beings who have lost their humanity (philosophically speaking) are predatory animals, nothing more and nothing less, and these are usually known for feeding on meat.
Mind you, zombies are probably only ever seen feeding on humans because humans will try to reason with the bloody things, whereas, say, a dog (in itself a quite acceptable source of meat, too) would just run away because it recognizes a predator when it sees one.

Is there BBQ sauce on your foot? If so, that explains it. If not, the zombie has a foot fetish.
